Week 50 - ITF ($25K) - Pune, India Hard

Well Em and Ankita have been pushed into a MTB now, after losing all 6 BPs they had second set, but conceding 2/3 BPs, the score is now 6-2 2-6 2-2. So all to do still if they want to face off against Sam and Ana.

Emily and Ankita have at least managed it now, only 5/15 points in the MTB were won on serve, but at least our two managed 4 of those, and won the MTB 10-5.

So a SF against Sam and Ana it is, and we are guaranteed one women's doubles finalist.... smile

Hard fought first set that lasted over an hour, but Katy took it, 7-6(4) *1-1

I think that is one match I couldn't bear to watch. Katy is a break down in the second, but it is 5 breaks to 6, so anything can happen.
And neither of them have held serve in this set - 2-3*

Well congrats to Katy, she has made it through after 3 holds at the back end of that second set, wins 7-6(4) 7-5

3-3, then they started holding serve - until Katy broke to take the match 7-6(4) 7-5

Good win against a player of near equal rank. Next up in the SF - a LL who beat the top seed in straight sets.

Interesting too, that in the SF Katy will play the Omani woman who received the one LL spot into the main draw, and who has just taken out the #1 seed. All credit to her! (and repeating the addicts comment)

QF: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 4 277 beat POZNIKHIRENKO, Ganna (UKR) 5 279 CH=278 13/11/17 7-6(4) 7-5

QF: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 4 277 vs AL NABHANI, Fatma (OMA) LL 550 (CH:362 April 14)

18pts defended.
A win tomorrow will cover all the points from last year's trip to India and then Katy will have just 15pts to defend until May. New CH is surely going to happen.

Including Byes, and counting an all-GB tine as two matches, Katies SF will be the 2000th round played by a GB woman in 2017.
In that SF, Oman will also become the 80th separate country to provide an opponent for a Brit woman in 2017.

Somehow, I still don't get the sense Katy is playing exactly 'well'. Which is sort of exciting, because she's making progression now, regardless.
AO is out of reach, but trying some WTA qualifying for the Internationals immediately after it, when the fields are thinned a bit might be a worthwhile gamble - even the week prior, in Hobart, as there's usually a lot of late withdrawals that decimate the fields.

Katy didn't have a great time last year in Australia, just the QF in Launceston with mostly first round exits elsewhere. So should be a good chance of picking up some points in the new year, and that new CH can't be far away.

Interesting SF doubles match just completed in which Sam and Ana turned it round after going down in the first set, and winning 4-6 7-5 10-4. It looked like it was a good match.
The top seeds also look like they are about to go out to the pair that beat Katy and Beth in the first round.

I'm interested in Gabi too, I think she has as much upside potential as Katy, even though Katy nicked it against Gabi in this tournament.

Yes Gabi maybe missed a bit of match play in getting over the line vs Katy but if she can stay fit and well for an extended period I actually see more upward potential than with Katy. But would be great for Katy to break out of that 250 - 350 range she has been in for about 3 years and with the relative window she has.
