Katy and Beth won the second set, but from *5-3 up in the MTB, they then proceeded to lose the next 7 points and went out 5-10 in that. cry

Pity. Though from following livescore, and double-checking the ITF PbP, in the MTB they were 3-1* up, 3-5* down, *5-5, and then lost the last 5 points.

Yes, I admit to some imprecise following there smile I had seen they were up and thought at this point they would finish comfortably, and then saw with dismay the sudden slide at the end cry

Gabi won in 3, so we have an all GB round 2 match up.

Interestingly Ms Veselinovic had 8 aces in the match with Gabi (and 8 DFs) vs Gabi's 1 ace (and 7DFs). With luck that serve will be an advantageous when Ana plays doubles with Sam later today.

R1: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 4 277 beat HANATANI, Nagi (JPN) Q 511 CH=507 30/10/17 6-3 6-1
R1: TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) 337 beat VESELINOVIC, Ana (MNE) Q 402 CH=329 2007 6-7(4) 6-3 6-2

R2: DUNNE, Katy (GBR) 4 277 vs TAYLOR, Gabriella (GBR) 337
H2H 1-0 - Katy won 3-6 6-4 6-3 in Surbiton 2017

Hmm just noticed that Zeel Desai, who beat Sam in the FQR, retired in the first round of the doubles and subsequently from the main singles draw... The person who replaced her as a LL was the #11q seed, an Omani woman, I assume through a random draw of the defeated q seeds in the FQR. That means that both Sam and Emily missed out on the potential LL place. Both however are in the QF of the doubles at least.

A nice tasty bagel for Gabi in set two. 10 points in a row helped towards an early double break and *3-0 and she didn't look back.

6-3 0-6

Katy to serve first in set 3 though there have been more breaks than holds ( 9-6 ).

Two more breaks to start set 3 then 4 of the last 5 games have been served out to love including Gabi's last 3 service games. A rather strange match.

Katy serving *4-4

Gabi has won most points in the match, indeed most points in the third set with these strong service games. But Katy is one game away.

5-4*

At 40-15 Gabi had won 15 of her last 16 service points, at which point Katy won 4 return points in a row to take the match.

Katy wins 6-3 0-6 6-4

Yes strange match, even by the end Gabi had won 7 more points than Katy, 88-81, and both of them won 6/11 BPs. Strange too the way in which Gabi lost at the end confuse

Sam and Ana have won their doubles QF now in straight sets 6-3 6-2. If Emily and Ankita Raina win their QF match up later today, then the two pairs will meet in the SF.
