Croatia and Hungary looks set for a winner takes all doubles match if I'm correct about how the tie break works? Sweden about to lose to Slovenia.

Strike that,  it could all end in a 3 way tie in that group to see who plays Gb if Hungary beat Croatia 2-1 and Sweden come back against Slovenia. All quite tight right now.

I was right first time. Sweden lost and are out. Hungary are 2-0 up on Croatia and are through in fact. Even if they lose the doubles, they both finish on 2 wins overall and Hungary win on head to head.

So Gb play Hungary tomorrow. Got to be favourites?!

We should have more than plenty against Hungary.

For todays doubles, Kontaveitt understandably does not return, leaving Katie & Anna against JWR550 & JWR611, and 4-0* up in 17 minutes

All looking good.

Pity for the Fed Cup some of the team selections, forced or otherwise. But helped GB.

6-1 To Katana (I know!)

Does losing a set affect our calculation in Fed Cup rating and ranking overall for future outcomes? Or, is it just rubbers, or ties?
I've never understood the system, it's marginally more intelligible than the FIFA world rankings.

Katie is looking a natural at this doubles thing. A few mishaps at the net, but otherwise good soft hands. Mind you the match itself is not much more than a mild practice exercise with nothing at stake. And as far as I know, it is just rubbers and ties that count for the rankings... and final position.

"In the Groups I, II and III a nation's points are determined by its overall finishing position. Formats vary according to the numbers of nations playing each year so the value of each win alters too. However the maximum points a nation can win at each level remains constant -

Group I - 1,000 points
Group II - 400 points
Group III - 160 points "

I believe Poland got a Mathematics professor in to help them keep their FIFA World ranking up and hence get seeded in Pot 1 for the World Cup finals. I believe avoiding friendlies ( either all or certain ones ) helped. And that FIFA, maybe linked to that, are downgrading the friendlies impact for the future.

An easy 6-1 6-1 potter for the Brits. I know hard to tell against such inexperience opposition, but Katie B certainly doesn't look a weaker player than Anna in that current combination.

Spared the statisticians any extra headaches

It should be comfortable enough tomorrow, but no chickens counted.

Galfi was a No1 ranked Junior, Stollar also pretty good, and they've played loads of doubles together; so they won't be a total pushover.

Is it the early match or late match tomorrow?

The Hungarian youngsters are underranked, but we should beat them.
