What a poor selection of athletes this year, there must be better candidates - lots of sports with very low profiles and little mainstream TV coverage
Elise Christie - short track speed skating; Sir Mo Farah - athletics, Chris Froome - cycling, Lewis Hamilton - F1, Anthony Joshua - boxing, Harry Kane - football, Johanna Konta - tennis, Jonnie Pea**** - Para-athletics, Adam Peaty - swimming, Jonathan Rea - motorcycling, Anya Shrubsole - cricket, Bianca Walkden - taekwondo.
I assume it will be between the four high profile athletes - Hamilton, Joshua, Kane and Farah. Jonnie Pea**** may get some extra votes due to strictly....
Christie or Peaty should be up there but don't have the TV exposure in their sport. Jonathon Rea seems to be a desperate addition to the line up.
Ha! Different strokes, I guess. I was just thinking it was a good list and nice to see minority sports recognised.
Naturally, delighted for Johanna. If she had made the SW19 final, or, indeed have had any sort of post Wimbledon season success at all, I would vote for her - Miami alone was a massive milestone for GB womens tennis.
But, as the exploits at Wimbledon effectively threw the rest of the year out of kilter, I couldn't vote for her given some of the other options. Hopefully, 2018 successes will leave no doubt that Johanna deserves my vote - on merit.
This year, I'll be voting for Ms. Christie: inarguable excellence of performance, and several other non-performance related facets to the nomination which put it above all others for me.

Very pleased for Mo, and while the petrol heads were certainly enthusuastic and enthused others to get behind Jonathan Rea, Mo's name ultimately seems a more appropriate one to take its place on the trophy. Though I admit I am not very into motor cycling, and still all the best to Jonathan
All very tight at the top and big favourite Anthony Joshua was just a comparatively small approximately 10,000 votes off winning and 18 (!!) votes off 3rd. Big cross-over Strictly vote for the admittedly admirable Jonnie P?
The bottom 5 were cast a bit adrift. Might have hoped for more for Jo but ultimately in the wider sports context she admittedly wouldn't have got my vote ( if I had actually voted this year ). Really hope Elise Christie will be in there again next year with Olympic golds and a much higher vote. As well as she has done this year, 2018 and the Olympics has to be her time of absolute redemption after her heartbreaking tribulations in Sochi. All the best to both Jo and Elise coming back with stronger CVs next year.

I have never heard of Jonathan Rea, I watch sport everyday read the newspapers I cant see how he can double the vote of all the women on the short list combined (who poled 8% of the total) without it being a laughably skewed contest. Definitely a case for splitting the sexs for the individual vote. Congratulations to the cricketers and Jess!
It could of course genuinely be a personality contest and Jonathan Rea is tearing up the northern pub and club circuit with his stand up.
Have you heard the one about the bloke on a motorbike who beat a world heavy weight boxer, Wimbledon semi finalist and the fastest breast stroker the world has ever seen in a sporting contest! Oh and a shout out to Joshua who looked respectful throughout, particularly in enthusiastically applauding the unsung hero award

Huge surprise - especially as Mo has never won it before and had his poorest season for many a year and the fact that he is linked to too many people under investigation for drug cheating and his management team are extremely hard to deal with...
I was very surprised at Harry Kane lack of votes.
Rea was a huge surprise, especially as he won world superbikes, when Moto GP is much bigger.
