RE: Week 48 - ITF ($15K) - Stellenbosch, South Africa Hard

I think she's making a case for hanging out at Stellenbosch more regularly, that makes sense to me smilesmile

The reality check coming up though. Since unless Laura S pulls out a blinder, or Chanel Simmonds pulls up lame, it will be her up next confuse

And poor Laura is just being blitzed by Chanel. Barely half an hour gone, 8 games gone, and nothing yet for Laura cry

The good news, Laura has broken serve. The bad news, it's still 0-6 *1-3

First Summer Yardley, and now Emilie LG ....

Emilie's great week continues

She's based in Spain, isn't she? Would be interested to know her domestic results if anyone has access to the Spanish federation result system. (Unless I'm completely mistaken and she's never been near Spain in her life......)

But great stuff !

Is she based in Spain?

She has no domestic ranking, no junior history, but has played a few tournaments in Spain and Portugal, but in other countries as well.

Never seen her play, never really heard of her other than her occasional exerts, cannot find much on the web either.

Well, Emilie's target is to make it past the hour mark... then she has done better than Laura managed! But at least Laura made the last set a bit more respectable... and finally won one of her own service games smile

Alicia and Laura S. went out of the doubles, in the QF to the #2 seeds, 2-6 1-6
They served 8 DF in 7 service games; went 1/9 on BP (their opponents were 5/8)

Chanel Simmonds looks set to easily plough through these home events for her, consideraby below her level, hoovering up titles for the loss of barely a few games.
Emilie is finding it as onerous a task as have all the others in the last two weeks, 1-6 0-1*

Emilie certainly battling though.

Just lost a 16 point game to go 1-6 1-4*

She has saved 8/10 BPs in the second set and the total match time has beaten Laura's hour, now an hour and 6 minutes.

That was kind of the last stand though as Chanel then quickly wraps up a 6-1 6-1 win.

Great week though for Emilie.

An amazing week for Emilie comes to an end.
1-6 1-6 today can't tarnish the excellent achievement. Points, 3 best ranking wins, qualified, MD, QF!
Well done. What next?

As for Simmonds, en route to last weeks title, she went: 6-1 6-2 | 7-6(7) 3-6 6-2 | 6-4 6-1 | 6-0 6-0 | 6-1 6-0
This week thus far, it's: 6-0 6-1 | 6-0 6-3 | 6-1 6-1
Good that she wins for the local audience, though the contest is minimal. At least you get time back from the quick matches. Vulture a few insurance points at the end of the year; many do it - including ours. Still don't like it though.

There are no 25ks in SA though, so it is a little hard for Chanel to play up a level there, which I'm sure she would like to....

She will struggle to get in qualifying with no national ranking.
