Because of withdrawals - there is no #8 seed - Emilie's next match will also feature a similarly ranked player, whoever it is, to the one she has just beaten, and no potential seed. So she has a reasonable chance of winning one more if she can keep up this new standard of hers.
Meanwhile Laura lost a first set TB in a match that is featuring many more breaks than holds. Good for Laura though that she saves 2 BPs at the beginning of the second set and subsequently holds. Currently 6-7(2) 2-0* with 5 breaks of serve to Laura, 4 to her opponent.
Laura eventually manages to scramble the second set, so now 6-7(2) 6-4. At the moment in the match she's won 8 breaks vs Marlies' 7 breaks. The number of BPs and deuces has made for long sets too, so they've now played already for 2 hours at the start of the third set.
But she has managed to hold, after a deuce or two naturally. Laura survived 29 BPs against her in that match, which lasted just over 3 hours 6-7(2) 6-4 6-4

Yes, if Laura can play for 3 hours and come through well at the end, one hope's she is fully fit again now... Sadly Laura is unlikely to progress further in this draw, since in all likelihood she will be playing the #1 seed Chanel Simmonds in the next round, who walked away with the tournament trophy last week. Then she also has the doubles to go with Alicia.
That win for Laura caps a good day, with Brits in ladies singles going 4-0, all in Africa (here, Egypt, Tunisia)
Add in the first point for Emilie, points elsewhere, new CH wins, and being guaranteed to break even - with10 wins so far from the 10 entries - and, it's already been a rather good week, with contributions from some unlikely suspects.
Many pleasant surprises; my kind of week.

Yes and ironically those 10 wins have been achieved with the two highest ranked women playing in tournaments this week, Eden and Alicia, yet to play a match, and the third highest ranked player, Emily, having lost. So unlikely suspects indeed.
There is currently an over 200 rankings place gap between the GB #23 Emily Appleton WR 760 on 22 points and the GB #24 and #25, Laura S and Mirabelle N, WR 961 on 11 points and WR 997 on 10 points respectively.
If Laura can stay fit and push on again and Mirabelle refind much of what enthused people a year or two ago, then both could certainly move quite a bit up these rankings.
And well done, Emilie, GB women's tennis so needs an 'e'
