She must feel she's living groundhog day at the moment. Someone give her a remission for good behaviour and release her from this torment for a while.

These little shoots that some of us thought we saw in the last month or two pretty severely crushed under a Ukrainian foot

So hope they can truly re-emerge in the new year.

A close season coming surely of much thinking and also hopefully some really positive work.

First set to Fran 6-4, but only after a blip at *5-2 whilst first serving for the set when she was broken to love.

Second set was rather more straightforward. Unfortunately to get more than 1 pt Fran will have to beat the #1 seed who was in the top 200 earlier this year. cry

R1: JONES, Francesca (GBR) 680=CH beat SQUARCIALUPI, Gaia (ITA) WC UNR 6-4 6-0

R2: JONES, Francesca (GBR) 680=CH vs (1) FERRO, Fiona (FRA) 326 (CH:197 May 17)

Ley us hope that Mlle. Ferro is, indeed, rusty.

Michael, Fiona is French, not Italian. She was the blue-eyed girl of French tennis as a teenager, predicted to go great heights and an absolute fave of the FFT - she got a wildcard to play the MD of Roland Garros when she was only 16 or 17. It all rather stalled, however, no idea quite why. But she certainly has some real class (although so does Fran smile)

The iron is too strong for Fran today, but still a match from which she learns I hope.

R2: JONES, Francesca (GBR) 680=CH lost to (1) FERRO, Fiona (FRA) 326 (CH:197 May 17 4-6 2-6
