Into the final, and the first half of Bob's request nicely satisfied.
Don't know if there's any basis for this but it somehow feels that this might be an important step in the right direction for Luke's singles - this is the launching pad for an assault on the top 300, say.
Doubles seems to be the main focus, but it does look like he is keen to defend points due to drop. Notice he is not down to play US 25K next week.
Yes, not sure either about any potential singles assault with doubles having been Luke's recent clear focus. More I'd say just playing these 25Ks ( including next week as I assume paulisi meant ) with the US Challengers finished.
But if he finds something more in his singles game and gets encouraged to play more, it could be interesting.
Luke won 3 points on return in the set with 2 of them being DFs and that is with Alex putting less than 50% first serves in ( 11/23, winning all 11 ) !
F: (5) Alex Ward WR 371 beat (8) Luke Bambridge WR 560 6-4 6-4
When Luke got to 30-30 on return in the final game I did wonder if he would actually suddenly break, but Alex won the next 2 points and the match for probably one of the most one sided 6-4 6-4's you will ever see. But credit at least to Luke for hanging in in most of his service games if getting virtually nowhere on return.
