Congrats to Jay, that's fantastic, and now he should be very close to securing that Aus Open q place, although he will still only be certain by winning the final too... He will now move up to around 220 in the live rankings, but still with those 36 points to come off.
I watched a bit at the end and apart from the last two points where he had two great first serves, was surprised to find his play relatively passive though, relying mainly on his opponent to make errors, which generally he was capable of doing. There seemed several occasions where Jay could play the ball wider, particularly off forehands and have got winners, or at least had his opponent struggling, and instead it came back rather short down the middle. But I think taking pace off the ball was frustrating his opponent, so maybe that was the strategy... Still a first Challenger final for Jay, where he could well meet Yuki Bhambri, his conqueror from last week. To have a chance there, I would suggest Jay will have to do a little more in that match...
Well done, Jay! I imagine it's odds on that he'll face his nemesis in Pune, Yuki, Bhambri, in the final. With any luck, though, he'll have learnt from that defeat.
So one more win just for a maiden challenger title ( already been maiden challenger SF and now final ), 100 points week, top 200, under 20 yo top 10 and making sure of Aussie Open qualifying.
And the hits just keep on coming from this young man. It has been so exciting to follow his progress this year. Long may it continue. Good luck in the final Jay. And as CD says, great work form the whole of team Clarke.
