If he gets past Pavic it's Escoffier or Yang in the Semi's.
Big opportunity
The erstwhile chef's making the most of his lucky loser spot (in for Evan King (6)), having despatched a local wild card in straight sets in the first round & Nedovyesov (8) in three in the second. Yang, on the other hand, dumped out the Croatian qualifier, Borna Gojo, who himself had seen off Adrián Menéndez (2) in three in the first round. There are now only two seeds left in the draw, Blaz Kavcic (1), who's survived two three-set matches, & the ever dangerous Yuki Bhambri (3), who won the title in Pune last week, beating Jay on the way to it.
And this takes Jay to 262 in the live rankings now. If he gets past Pavic, it's potentially up to the low 240s, and Aus Open qualifying starts to become a possibility - ahh but still with those 36 points to come off that Indy mentions early in this thread.
Well, nothing for it Jay, you just need to keep going this week.
Is this Jay's last week of the year? Or can he possibly get in to a futures event on a wildcard in the next couple of weeks to try and get over the line?
It's his last planned event. I wonder if he has any training lined up with Andy in the coming month... And I don't think he should change his planned training plans at this point. Great if he gets into Aus Open qualifying, but his horizon for 2018 and his preparation for it has to be looking beyond Jan. Still, two more wins and he could be there...
