Week 47 - ITF ($15K) - Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt Hard

Time for Ms. Burrage to put a stop to this Belarussian blight on our chances in Sharm.

Today did not proceed as might have been hoped from our point of view.

Having beaten Jodie last week in the QF, Talbi finished as runner-up.
Time to get revenge.

I thought Freya might have turned that one round, but not back to her best yet

That's quite a comeback from Jodie and Freya in the doubles. Lost the first set and came back from 4-8 (ish) in the final breaker to win 10-8

Great result from Jodie, but the next match will be a different level

Superb result, with Burrage & Christie trouncing the top seeds, to make it seven in a row, and move into a second successive final together
SF: Burrage/Christie (GBR/GBR) defeated Bonic/Stojanovic (SRBV/AUS) [1] 6-4 6-1

Good stuff

In the GB singles crowd between WR 500 and WR 550, Jodie moves ahead of Freya for Monday week's rankings and should also move ahead of EWS on tiebreak. The title would take her past Maia and Eden too to the top of the bunch ( though 59 points would still almost certainly be a bit short of the top 500, over to Eden next week on that one ).

GB rankings in running for Monday week :

11. Murray 83

12. Carreras 81

13. Silva 57
14. Lumsden 55
15. Burrage 51
16. Webley-Smith 51
17. Christie 50

18. Grey 41
19. Jones 30
20. Barnett 30

Looks as if Gabi is doing the India December thing along with Sam Murray. They are entered into the India 15K in week 49 with 25Ks to follow in weeks 50 and 51.

I think Katy is going out to India as well

Yes, Katy D and Katie S both on the early week 50 Pune 25K list along with Gabi and Sam.

Jodie's decision not to go to the university of Florida from a tennis perspective already seems to be paying dividends.

A step up in quality in the semi-finals yes but exactly what is needed to progress and a level that is difficult to find week in week out in the US college system.

Exciting stuff and fingers crossed for a good performance in the semis.

Yes, Jodie's choice was always reasonably justifiable. She might find herself rather stuck in the 250-350 slot, as per a lot of our other girls, at age 20-22, in which case college may have been a plus.
But Jodie has the potential for top 100 (just my view but I believed that since she was 16). Whereas - again just my view and maybe completely wrong - Emily Appleton doesn't and her decision was way more questionable.

(That said, I also thought at age 16 that Katie B and Freya had potential for top 100. And still do. But they wouldn't have done themselves any harm, given where there are now, if they'd gone to college either. And I know injuries have been a problem for both but....)

Jodie is being reminded today of the level that she still needs to reach to meet her aspirations; Ozgen dominating leaves the Brit a set and a break down, 2-6 0-1*
