Interesting match up between Katy and Laura and I would be tempted to back Katy in this case.

Katy's ranking has huge potential upside - she has covered most of her points for the rest of the year and has 15pts to defend until May. I'm not sure if she is planning any more tennis this year, but she is going back to Australia in February for that circuit, so a relatively good run down under and I can see Katy getting down to low 200's before the grass court season which may give her direct entry into the 100K's on the grass and a chance of a Wimbledon main draw wildcard.

First serve was really firing for Laura in the first set...dropped off a lot in the second but quite a few aces again, so maybe signs of improvement again :)

No luck in the doubles for Katy either.

I'm not celebrating yet, Laura sometimes plays well against her countrymen. I will wait for the next match and will be more optimistic if she can play two matches well in a row.

Laura 1-6 7-6(3)

This is almost the reverse of Tara's match against Lu in Hong Kong in January, which Tara went on to win in three.

Yes, that can be the reaction following a Laura match    To be fair she's not the only one.

Now 1-6 7-6(3) *4-4.  Two breaks apiece in the third,

Actually was one break apiece. But now Lu has a second.

4-5*
