Super!
Naomi has sensibly not gotten herself drawn in to the 'Swiss' half of the draw (Golubic, Teichmann, and most dangerously Bencic make up 3 of the four remaining players in the other half).
Therefore, she'll face the altogether more agreeable proposition of the winner of Rus/Cabrera which should be an even contest for Naomi.

It's a good opportunity. Hope Naomi can take it. AO MD?!?

Naomi is at 116 on the live rankings. A win tomorrow would put her around 109/110 and a tournament victory up to 101

Naomi is also down for the 125k next week in Mumbai...

mumbaiopen.in/player-profiles/

...along with several of the players around her in the rankings, who are clearly also treating these as AO pre-qualifying. If she wins this week, I expect Naomi may well skip Mumbai. If she finished RU, then the Swiss champ will be ahead of her in the live rankings, and also Kenin, still playing in Oklahoma 25k; in which case she'll do her damnest to play.

One match at a time is a cliche to say the least but it's absolutely correct in this case.

Keep it up Naomi.

I think she will turn up and she will probably play 100K+H in Dubai. It's all about getting inside that top 100 and getting into WTA events and earning the big bucks.

I note that the BBC and Sky websites are focused only on London and the APT finals at the moment. Tennis outside London doesn't exist this week... oh, other than Serena's wedding that is.

On the Radio 5Live commentary though Leon Smith and Russell Fuller discussed Naomi's performance (and Cam;s) and commented on how well she had played this week and how close she was to AO Direct entry

Not meaning to sound like a Brexiteer which I definitely am not but this is exactly why more British (real) tennis people need to be active in media around these big events, Leon is great in that as you would expect of a DC captain he has a great passion for British Tennis. A number of the commentators do not have a day to day awareness of what is going on in the professional game.

Hopefully the new opportunities arising within the BBC relating to expanding their coverage of sport on their very successful internet platforms will be grasped with both hands and the powers that be within British Tennis will give them something to broadcast. Joining up events with a clear pyramid of progression is a no brainer!  We should have a world college grass court championship in the second week of Wimbledon like the Americans do with the US Open, the British tour needs to climax with the Wimbledon wildcard playoffs. So much opportunity to grab! Please please grab it.

Yes, would agree with much of that Oakland and some interesting ideas... though perhaps hard for the British Tour to finish so early, as it means starting through winter...

Back to the tennis itself, and although losing her singles SF, Naomi and Monique have won their doubles SF comfortably against the second seeds, so Naomi does will at least compete one final here this week.... smilesmile

That's a shame
Let's hope the form holds for a similar harvest in India next wee; if she decides to play.

Naomi did salvage something from the day, moving in to the doubles final with Ms. Adamczak.
SF: Naomi BROADY/Monique ADAMCZAK (GBR/AUS) [3] 144 (87 + 57) defeated Arina RODIONOVA/Nina STOJANOVIC (AUS/SRB) [2] 141 (86 + 55) 6-3 7-5
