One of the stories of the GB women's year has been the way in which Sarah Beth has managed to push on to a higher level.
I'm a little confounded that thus far it has only translated to a rise of circa 80 places since the start of the year. However, if she keeps performing like this, that substantial ranking reward will surely come in time.
That take us above 1.000 for the week in entries-to-wins: 21 entries, now 22 wins.
With at least five guaranteed through to Friday play, this has potential to be one of our best weeks in this regard, and all without the boosting effect of multiple GB-v-GB ties that any home events in a given week provides.

Wow, Beth the battler that's for sure. Marta had BPs to go *3-0 up on Beth in the second set ie would have been a double break up... and somehow Beth saved that game to get back to *2-1... and then kept battling throughout the set, as others have noted. I can't imagine how dismayed Marta must have been to lose that set somehow, after being ahead for all of it until the end... and Beth's fortitude in somehow finding a way back was just remarkable. That's a really excellent win for her. Although she has only increased her ranking by 83 sofar this year, as blob notes, last week's result (up 25 places next week), and this week's 10 points so far, should see her near to doubling those 83 places.

Yes. There has certainly been a bit of a sea change in her ability to win winnable matches. My own feeling is that it's all about maturity and confidence. I don't know Beth at all as a person but she always looked rather shy and 'young' on court, lacking in confidence, always likely to lose a match that was well within her grasp. (Maybe linked to how little she traveled before? Maybe to certain personal issues?). It's really super to see her coming into her own.
I'm inclined to agree with you CD - the wins are starting to come, and it must be confidence. She had some tough draws earlier in the year, so it took a while to start collecting the points.
And of course, Beth is only 22, so plenty of time to make the next jump up.
Beth has 6pts to defend until end July. She has accumulated 37pt since August. If she could get anywhere near matching that she will be ranked in the 300's
I suspect the change in coaching has had a big impact and she seems mentally stronger and much more consistent.

Think Beth has teamed up with Mike James and the team at Halton.
Again, just my view, but I think her tennis made a huge move after her stint at Soto (several years back) - it was chalk and cheese in terms of what she was actually putting out there on the court.
But her belief and maturity didn't match her tennis. So it may well be Mike that has really managed to cement that (as well as certain things in her life getting sorted out). Either way, it's obviously working well for her with Halton, and with whatever other programmes she's got in place.

Great to see.
Thanks and interesting CD. The below are her year end rankings last few years. So in fact end of 2016 she had regressed a little, after a big rise in 2015. Now she is going to rise again to about 630 next Monday, and based on her results so far this week to around 585 the following week. As paulisi notes, between next week and Aug 18 she has only 4, single pointers coming off (with 2 points this week), so has a lot of upside potential in the coming months if she continues these types of performances.
Not to be today.
Looking to next season, Beth is clearly capable of beating higher ranked players, however what she hasn't done yet in singles is go deep. This should be the focus.
Maja is good - saw her at Wirral, but had a leg injury in the final and Maia Lumsden won easily. Will be a tough match for Beth.
Beth is winning 25k matches on a regular basis now - she is clearly playing at a level around 300-400 ranking
It's really good to see with Beth and interesting to read as to some of the possible reasons for how she has really pushed on but steady !!!
She has certainly shown at her best she is now very competitive with much higher ranked players but that can always be said of lots of players. On their day etc etc. She now needs to aim in the new year at sustaining this higher standard over many months and, as you indicated yourself, managing some deeper weekly runs, truly backing wins up.
For now, on Monday week Beth will be on 43 points which should have her about the 580s and certainly going in the right direction.
