All Marta's tournaments so far this year have been on outdoor clay, but she has beaten a number of players with decent rankings, and it looks like she is pretty comfortable indoors as well. Not going to be at all easy.
R1: GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) Q 655 def WYSOCZANSKA, Katarzyna (POL) WC UNR 6-1 6-0
R2: GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) Q 655 v LESNIAK, Marta (POL) 448 CH=445 2004
Marta beat the top seed 6-1 6-1. She stopped playing at the age of 20 and came back for one tournament last year after an eight year gap. After a further 5 month delay she started playing regularly from April this year winning a succession of 15K events and reaching the final of others.
Nice efficient advantage taken of a favourable draw; well done SBG
Marta is an interesting case. Good junior that didn't play a very heavy schedule, but when she did she was dangerous, despite only reaching JWR31. She beat a lot of the very best of her contemporary class, even if they had several years on her: Kerber, Cibulkova, Shvedova, Kleybanova, Knapp, Erakovic - all of whom went on to be at least top 40 on the WTA. Had two protracted injuries and surgery sagas (knee and wrist) and just decided to pursue an academic career. I always like it when players get a second chance after a long while away. Love of the game she says drove her back eventually However, I'll like it a lot less this time, if she provides decisive impediment to Sarah Beth.

Which Beth wins, so now 4-6 7-6(4) Lesniak served for the match twice, and was broken. Much closer match than might have been expected - 79 to 81 in points, 3 breaks to 4 from 10 attempts each.
Edit - so we are all following closely !

Winning 6-4 in the third takes her through to a 25k QF, equalling a CB run from a couple of months ago, and up to a new provisional CH ranking, around 580.
Will play local wundersprog Maja C, who previously played Maia in the 15k Wirrall final.
