Not entirely sure what you're driving at there, Spectator, but if it helps, Tom picked up five points, but no prize money, for qualifiying.  If he falls at the first hurdle in the main draw, he wins 1,100 euros, but no points!  hmm

In Tom's last however many (can't remember) futures tournaments, he has either been knocked out in the 1st round or won the whole thing. No half measures from Tom.  So the question is basically does this run mean with Tom having got through 1st round qualies, that he will win the title or is that only valid if he gets through 1st round proper.

Thanks, BiS, for explaining ... and apologies to SC and anyone else I confused by being somewhat elliptical!

I'll echo your thanks to Bob, Spectator, & no need to apologise.  I'd quite forgotten about Tom's "previous!

Tom lost the first set on a tiebreak, but won the second 6-4... and now a break up in the third!

Tom was broken serving for the match. Now parity.

L32:  Jürgen Zopp (EST) WR 178 defeated (Q) Tom Farquharson WR 501 by 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(5)

So close!  Tom actually served for the match at 5-4 in the final set, then served a double fault to hand Zopp match point.  cry

He came from 5-1 down to 5-5 in the TB only to then double fault.

That'll be hard top take for Tom. Very good effort and thought he had it when serving for the match having not been broken throughout the match.

Not the result desired, but I hope that he can look on it more as evidence that he can be competitive with a top-200 player and that this is a good level to be at.

And whoever was previously the favourite to win the title can breathe a sigh of relief.

As speculated about, maybe it is indeed just considered to have been a main draw R1 thing so Tom maybe was never favourite for the title though clearly would have become odds on if he had won today

Seriously, while a real pity to lose such a close match and having served for it, indeed more evidence that he can compete at a relatively very good level which is good to see. Always having played his way in for the week of course

Zopp has now gone on to beat Baggy by 7-6(11) 2-0 retired.  If only...  hmm
