Interesting that both those head to heads are 4 years ago now. It is good to see Freya back now, obviously returning nearer to full fitness after her injury, but I will be very surprised if the head to head gap between them both is not narrowed tomorrow.
With that scoreline, might well have been a very entertaining final.
Congratulations to Maia, now with sights on doubling up her titles on Wearside.
Doubles titles in consecutive weeks, and Maia's third consecutive doubles final, and fourth in five events.
It's her fourth title of the year (and her career), three now in doubles; each with a different partner.

ohhh this isn't good. Just 7 games in and there is an MTO. Not clear who is affected as the score is currently on serve, Maia up 4-3*. Hope both are able to continue ok...
First blood to Maia, she wins the first set 6-4. Freya was then *0-40 up on Maia at the start of the 2nd set, with 3 BPs, but Maia then won the next 5 points to hold serve.
... and then takes a BP herself, so Maia now up 6-4 *2-0

Well, it would appear that it was Freya who might have been affected by that early MTO. She is falling away in the 2nd set, and after winning the first 3 points has now only won 5 more. Maia on the verge of a great victory 6-4 5-0*
Good progress on her continued return from Freya, presume the gas is still not quite there.
Maia is having a very productive year. Her first title, back in February, in has now been joined by four others; the total comprised of two singles and three doubles.
She has 38 wins this year, 3rd amongst Brits, just a shade behind just Johanna (40) and Katie Boulter (39).
Her record thus far, of 38-20 from her 58 matches is a winning % of almost two thirds, at 65.52%. Amongst players with more than 10 matches, that puts her fourth, behind Johanna, Emily Arbuthnott & Francesca.
In the spirit of a song of the coming season: 'Winning is our Maia in Sunderland'
Very admirable, no nonsense success. Long may it continue
This is the 15th singles title for GB women in 2017

Certainly getting very consistent at this level. Good to see Freya winning matches again. 2018 hopefully will see her back up to where she was before and beyond.
