That repeat of last week's Beth vs Maia QF that is now not going to happen because Beth has lost.. the question is whether even Maia is actually going to make the QF or not. Margot has just served for the second set and match - and been broken to love by Maia. Maia just about holds serve in the next on the 3rd deuce 4-6 6-5*
Congrats too to Erin for a big win over Laura S 6-3 6-4 and her 2nd point now

Great win for Erin and the prize money might just cover her bills for the week.
All four seeded pairs made it through to the semi finals in the doubles, so we have gone from ten Brits to just three.
Beth and Alicia won 0 & 4, and Maia + won 2-6 7-6 11-9
Surprise of the day so far is Beth's loss to the 18 yr old French girl Lucie Wargnier 7-6(7) 6-2. So digging a bit further see that Lucie did have a JCH 39 back in Jan 15 but that is still some performance of hers.
Laura S is also a set and now break down to Erin Richardson 3-6 4-5* and Maia is a set down to Margot Yerolymos 4-6 2-1*
I was surprised too - I thought Beth would win.
But Lucie W has a story, like many players. She was champion of France as a 12 or 13 year-old, and always in the top elite mix. In true French style, she made her mark in juniors (as you say, 39), while still very young (age 15), and then moved over to adult tennis. But was playing a 25k and suddenly completely tore her ant. cruc. ligament and was out of tennis completely for 12 months. She only came back at the end of last year and has found it hard to pick up where she left off.
She says that the experience has made her a real fighter.
But Beth (much as I'm a fan) isn't known for mental toughness - she's lost many a match that she could have/should have won. Maia, on the other hand, has more of a terrier quality (as well as some lovely variety in her play). She should win easily .... surely....
Yes and Maia really showed her terrier qualities yesterday. She won 9 of the last 10 games in the match to achieve her come back against Margot. And like you I would also expect Maia to go on now and win the tournament, which would be fantastic. Intrigued though to see the two dark horses in the QFs, Tiffany and Erin. Jodie should be too much for Tiffany, and Alicia for Erin, but it will be interesting to see how they perform.
Lucie is a good player. After 40 mins she and Maia are really toughing it out with no advantage either way yet. In contrast Erin is succumbing to Alicia who now leads 6-1 2-0
Maia leads 7-5 5-3*. She just saved 3 BPs within an 18 point game to stay a break up ( 2 breaks to 1 ) in the second set after 1 hour 53 minutes in total,
