Cam has of course had a super period but his last two tournaments have hardly helped his chances of Aus Open MD direct entry.
Without having heard his thoughts I would be very surprised if that's not a big aim, and over and above the guaranteed financial benefit and he having such 'down under' roots and family I am one who does think that Slam MD experience is a very good target over Slam qualifying experience and possible MD.
Still it shows what a period he has had that he just made it in in the last counting week to US Open Qualifying and is as close as he is to Aussie Open MD entry.
For now he has just added 7 points this week and has 17 points due to come off on 27/11 so net not helping to push up his current WR 113,

Hmm Cam may be struggling to make Aus Open main draw entry but more worrying was that he was hit off the court today. He had no real answer to the speed of Roelofse's serve and the strength of his ground strokes, which suggests there is still work that he needs to do on his game to be competitive when it comes to Top100 players, many more of whom will be serving faster and with more powerful shots than those he has been facing regularly in the Challenger events. Cam did not look ready for bigger tournaments today, and I'm totally disregarding Roelofse's ranking, seeing that his standard of play today was easily top 200. Once Cam narrowly lost the first set, I expected him to move Roelofse around the court more and the big man to tire if Cam managed to get it to a third set. Instead Roelofse soon demolished what remaining opposition Cam could muster and then just ate him. As soon as the first break happened at 2-3* Cam was gone and the match effectively over.
