Non GB related but I wonder at what point Freddie will shift to doubles full time. His foray back into focused singles hasn't gone very well since winning Wimbledon with Jonny Marray.
Off topic but I couldn't find a thready on him but has Jonny retired?
He's been struggling with a calf strain for a few years, last I heard in March he was looking to get back playing but he hasn't emerged.

The week before Wimbledon a board member said that Jonny had retired. Like Robin I have seen / heard nothing official and with Johnny being a quiet, private respectful person and not an attention seeking twitter fiend it's always been a bit difficult to know what's going on with him. As wolf says he had a recurring calf problem.
As regards Freddie, well there's a man who has thrown his tennis career away. If the penny didn't drop after his Wimby win with Jonny then it clearly never will. Everybody was flabbergasted that he wanted to prioritise singles after this and only Freddie knows why he wants to play for a few bob on the futures tour with the odd challenger thrown in when he could have probably had 10 years as a top 50 main tour doubles player.
Peliwo and Novikov's lack of progress is interesting, particularly Peliwo's. We often comment on the likes of Liam's struggles stepping up from juniors, but he's fared a lot better than Peliwo who is less than a month younger and had a slightly better junior career, winning a couple of slams.
Regarding Freddie Nielsen, I spoke to him in June 2014 about why he's never pursued a doubles career on the main tour...
Basically he's a man after Jaggy's own heart. He absolutely adores playing singles, and for him he'd rather be grinding away in the singles main draw of a futures event in Kazakhstan, than competing in the doubles main draw of the US Open. He told me that his goal as a tennis player has always been to become the best singles player he possibly can be, and while winning Wimbledon doubles in 2012 was nice, doubles has never been a particularly motivating factor for him. Instead singles is the be all and end all, its the reason why he plays tennis.
Apparently Jonny Marray tried his best to persuade him to establish a regular partnership on the main tour but it didn't interest him. I asked him whether he'd consider becoming a full-time doubles specialist once his singles days are over, and he said no, when that happens he'd rather quit and become a coach.
He admitted that not all players understand his mindset, and many of them have asked him, 'Freddie what the hell are you doing competing in a Spanish futures while you could be competing at Wimbledon?' But for him, it's just all about the singles and he said that people should respect his feelings about that.
Thanks Sheddie. Surprise but indeed if that is his choice it should indeed be respected.
There will usually be some element of a player wanting to see how far they can ultimately get in singles. Especially with his doubles abilities though, he has carried that far past and to an older age than the vast majority ever would but that is his choice and ultimately if he is happy in himself with that choice one can make a very good case that it is for no one else to say that he is wrong. Money is not the be all and end all to many folk.
Yeah that's the point he was trying to make. He gets far more pleasure playing singles and is financially stable enough to be able to pursue his passion, and while doubles would undoubtedly make him more money and allow him to consistently play the bigger arenas, that's not what he wants out of his career.
But yeah, for players who don't have that financial stability, it's a hard one to understand

I had the pleasure of meeting Jonny earlier this year and he told me he had retired. Too many injuries he just didn't think he was getting a decent enough run at it, before another injury would emerge or recur. I got the impression he was considering doing some coaching. I also spoke with Colin Fleming and unsurprisingly he didn't remember us playing against each other at U14 level! Also met but didn't get a chance to speak with Alfie Hewitt.
