Jack Sock winning means the European run of consecutive Masters and GS winners stops at 107.

Jack Sock winning a masters is a complete sporting mystery, on the same level as the Shergar saga.

Not really a mystery when you look at the field, particularly when Rafa decided to give a walkover as soon as he was sure of clinching year end number one.  I hope to see some major health improvements amongst the top players in the next couple of months because on the whole 2017 has been a joke at the top end of the game and not really pleasant to watch.

TBF, I don't just think it's the health of the top players - I think part of the fault lies with the Tour. Even the just started "off season" isn't much of an off season due to the ATP Next Gen Tournament (and what a clusterfudge that is) and the WTF next week and DC tie still to be played.

And let's not forget that the Tour starts right at the start of January - Brisbane, Doha and Pune start week beginning Jan 1st, with Auckland and Sydney the week after and then the first slam of the year. Discounting Christmas in the middle, that is about 7 weeks rest.

Our no1 ATP player has been particularly affected this season. Hopefully a fully fit Andy next season handles his schedule much better. If that means a few zero pointers then so be it. Number one ranking has been ticked off now. Topping up that slam tally must be at the top of his priorities.
