Oh dear. I had been out all day and just saw the final scoreline and thought that's a real pity but it's certainly the most competitive Kyle has been in a third set against a top 40 player this year even if he is now 0-9 in such sets this year.
But now reading how that set scoreline was arrived at and it again unfortunately raises questions about Kyle ultimately getting the Ws, just he has previously relatively faded earlier in final sets. And for all the variation improvements ( good ) and more presence ( good ) he has to turn that round and if it wasn't a mental issue it could become, one, especially since he can only be too well aware that he doesn't see out big matches if it goes to a third. He did though of course battle out a win against Donskoy in R1 just leaving the year's top 40 stat almost more anomalous and his relative to date lack of big wins in general. Again, must hope that the new coach can really help here.

I remember only too well a period when Kyle was going through futures and there was much comment about how he faded in the 3rd set. He turned that around at that level and I am confident that he will do so at this level as well. His interview in the Daily Mail (link posted in Kyle's own thread) suggests he is aware of how he has not quite got over the line in a number of matches this year and will no doubt do what is necessary to resolve that.
I didn't get to see any of the match today but the MTO certainly seemed to be a turning point. Whether Sock improved afterwards or not, I cannot say, but there was definitely a momentum shift.
