Every chance now that Kyle will finish the season inside the Top 50. He is currently 49 in the live rankings and nobody is within "1 match" range. Closest challenger is Chung and he would have to win two more rounds. He faces Rafa in the L32. Other than Chung, any other player would have to reach at least the SF to dislodge Kyle from his current position and I think that unlikely. The nearest two are Joao Sousa and Peter Gojowczyk. Sousa faces Del Potro in the L32 whilst Gojowczyk is playing Thiem as I type and 1 set all.
Of course if Kyle can beat Sock, this would be put to bed immediately as that would see him climb a further 4 or 5 places, depending on how Coric gets on against fellow countryman Cilic.
Sounds quite a number of potential real positives going forward if it all clicks together. There is the ongoing issue about fading against top 40 players ( oh yes there is ) due to temperament and / or technique this year often letting Kyle down in third sets. So if that can improve too then at some stage further real progress can be made when allied with a rounder game but still the fearhand there.
I reckon Kyle will take Jack Sock this afternoon. They have not dissimilar games but Kyle has the better all round game and Sock seems a little lacking in self belief just now. I watch a lot of both as I like attacking players. Socks ranking is where Kyle should be headed some time next year.

Always thought Jack Sock could flatten out more of his first serves, too often seems to have to fight to hold and I suspect its because he always puts some spin on the first serve, has a great kicker but with his power should be serving more aces.
