Huge congrats to Goffin - what a time to produce a stellar performance - it was gutsy and brave - and if Rog wasn't quite firing on all cylinders at the end it was only because Goff had managed to make him look a bit 'ordinary' (which Roger doesn't like and who can blame him.....).
The organisers won't be too chuffed but well done, that man.

Are you Andrew Castle in disguise? Were we watching the same match? Goffin did not win this match, Federer lost it. Federer was playing at 60%, not even as if Goffin peaked or was clutch. Worst Federer match I have seen in many a year. Goffin has no place in a tour end final, this bad for the sport.
If Goffin wins this, this will be on par, with calling Gasten Gaudio a grand slam winner.
I hope Jack Sock wins, as he does have more long term potential as a player, Goffin is, very much like the country he is from boring.

Goffin, Sock and Dimitrov the remaining three in the ATP Finals is a bit laughable. No disrespect to them and kuddos for them for taking this rather unique opportunity.
No Murray, Djokovic, Nadal, Wawrinka, Raonic, Nishikori... that's 6 of the best 7-8 players in the world. I've barely followed tennis outside of the Brits this year. Really hope the big guns are all fighting for the big tournaments again next year. Been such a weird year.
Vandenburg - just interested to know whether you have visited Belgium for any prolonged period? I lived there for 13 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Much maligned country, usually by people who judge from outside.
you should all know by now that the big 4 are getting old and their dominance is over - sure, they can win some more big trophies but the weekly grind of the tour looks beyond them now so it's time to look to the next generation who, like it or not, are going to be the names to watch for the next few years

I for one have found this week fascinating. Yes, maybe the Big 6 or 7 would have dominated had they played but they also were / are getting a little stale and it is good to see new faces. Jack Sock has impressed me and whilst he may not be a future slam winner ( I cant see him holding his game together in 7 best of 5 set matches) , he is exciting too watch, as is Dimitrov. Dimitrov v Goffin might be a surprise and possibly sub standard final, but it will be interesting and the winner will certainly deserve to get some time in the limelight. Not too forget, Dimitrov has now reached #3 in the rankings and Goffin will be #5 should he win. If he wins this and the DC in two weeks time, he deserves a lot of credit and could be up there as one of the players of the latter half of the season

Thing is though, much as I am one who does find real interest in how these players individually respond and perform when given opportunities ( and it has been a far more competitive finals than of late ) the immediately following generation ( your mid to late 20s generation ) are a relatively poor generation. However much Federer and Nadal are waning, fact is they actually have still dominated this year not just all 4 Slams but also 5 Masters titles between them. The end of year WR 3 Dimitrov, even with his big points here and whatever the final result, will have the least points of an end of year WR 3 since the points overhaul of 2009 and miles behind Nadal and Federer.
So while I have found interest in many ways in this season, let's not be having another one but at least for next season more big ( if getting older ) players back so that we are essentially seeing better top level tennis.
We must more hope that the ATP's "Next Generation" players can really push on, in the next couple of years of so and there are some good signs, not just from Zverev. And maybe Dimitrov can really push on and take advantage of his position in the 'poor' generation.
Parochially, the next good looking group being players younger than Kyle is incidentally why I do really feel he needs to push on his development as quickly as possible and seek to maximise what opportunities that may arise in the here and now. Some of his best chances may come before what might previously have been looked on as his likely peak years individually, as some top players wane and before he is maybe overtaken by more of the younger players.
In the doubles final (2) Kontinen & Peers beat (1) Kubot & Melo 6-4 6-2
So the title for Kontinen & Peers and end of year #1 pair for Kubot & Melo with Melo individual WR 1 based on less tournaments played.
I make it that Jamie & Bruno will end the year #3 pair although still individually WR 9 and WR 10 respectively ( the live-tennis.eu site which suggests they have moved up is adding the ATP finals points in total rather than net taking away their previous 18th counters - unless there has been a change the finals count as an extra full counter for singles rankings but not for individual doubles rankings ).
