The massive turnout here and in in qualifying, makes this our largest number of entries of the year, 44 - there are 35 entries here, making it the most for any event of YTD.

That beats week 31, in which we had 39 total entries - 25 of which were at the Woking $25K, making that the joint second highest number of entrants in any single evet, tied with the Wirral $15K back in week 7.

Interesting stats, thanks Blob. Are there any stats available to show in which week GB (men and women) have had the most ATP/WTA/ITF wins in a single week ie at ranking point tournaments? I suspect those arent available without lots of work so dont worry but it struck me as interesting information!

I don't keep any records for the men's side.
The most wins the women have had at ranking events in 2017 YTD is a tie on 37 wins:
Week 7 - We had entries in 7 events (1 WTA, 6 ITF) and wins in 6 of those (we did not get a win in Doha on the WTA).

  • Wirral $15K - 14 wins
  • Perth $25K - 11 wins
  • Altenkirchen $25K - 2 wins
  • Antalya $15K - 2 wins
  • Manacor $15K - 2 wins
  • Sharm el Sheikh $15K - 2 wins

Week 12 - Entries in 8 events (1 WTA, 7 ITF) - wins in 6 of those

  • Miami - Premier Mandatory - 6 wins
  • Sharm el Sheikh $15K - 13 wins
  • Mornington $25K - 4 wins
  • Obidos $15K - 8 wins
  • Hammamet $15K - 3 wins
  • Heraklion $15K - 3 wins
    • There were zero wins from our entrants in the $15K's in Antalya, or Le Havre

Week 12 is obviously pretty exceptional, as it did not have a GB event to boost the numbers, all the success came overseas.

Other weeks have had a higher ratio of wins per entrant.
These figures represent wins, not wins for a point (i.e. wins in QR1 of a $15K are included in the totals, even though they score zero points - it's a figure for wins in a professionally ranked event). I could do the highest number of matches won that scored a point in a week.

And congrats too to Anna Loughlan for her first counter. Either Gemma Heath (just 16 yrs) or Isabelle Hearnshaw will gain their first counter too... Gemma a set and a break up looks the most likely currently.

This week could beat those two then.. since by the end of today there will likely already be 30 wins so far this week, if you're including all the Wirral qualifying scores. 31 actually as EWS won a q round too.

As of the time of writing this, I make it 30 wins so far this week, with 4 round 1 results still to arrive (Keens, Robson, Boulter, Njoze), and 13 already through to a second MD round.
We are guaranteed a further 2 wins in Wirral, by virtue of all GB R16 encounters.
As this week has had a total of 20 all GB matches, and thus guaranteeing 20 wins, we would naturally expect it to have, at least, a very good chance of setting the highest wins total for any individual week.
The previous high of all-GB matches in any given week was 10, in Week 24, where 9 were in the Manchester $100K, and there was also Tara v. JoKo in the Nottingham International.

Well done on Ola P on obtaining a ranking and Ella T on securing a longer term ranking. Both are now ranked until at least June.

That takes us to 34 ranked women with just 3 remaining in danger of losing their ranking before the year end. Ema Lazic needs to add initially by 13/11 and Alice Gillan and Tiffany William need to add by 20/11 and 04/12 respectively to protect their recently gained rankings.

This only counts confirmed rankings in the published official lists, not those achieved but yet to 'go on'.

Congrats, young Ola !

Really pleased for her. She's going via a different path, ignoring juniors and focusing just on her tennis and putting it into practice in adult events. Her father is obviously a big figure in the tennis careers of his two girls and seems a serious and sensible man.

Good luck to them both (with a special soft spot for Pitak the Younger

And congrats to Anna too - great win against a top-900 player. And Ella too.

Long day and saw plenty of matches. The standard is very competitive with a lot of players similarly ranked, so the tournament is really open.
Emma Hurst had chances against Ms Orange, she was a break up a couple of times, but didn't have the consistency to keep it close.
Hannah played a typical Hannah match very up and down. She had chances, but I suspect she struggles to close sets out.
Laura v Alicia was tight for two sets. Alicia has improved since I last saw her and Laura probably ran out of gas in the third set after a long time out.
Nell v Remondina was a really good match. Nell is a real workhorse, gets a lot of balls back in court and has a nice game. First set could have gone either way, Nell won the second easily, but Nell has played a lot of tennis recently and some long matches and it took it's toll in the third and she ran out of gas. Remondina showed glimpses of class, but an awful lot of errors in the first two sets.
Sam Murray won very nicely against a prima donna.
Pitak the elder put up a good fight with some very long games against the second seed, but the seeded player was just too consistent.
Freya struggled early on, but once she got going, she won easily. It was a big step up for Lillian and she would have been better in qualifying, but she has a decent game for a 15 year old.
Laura D did the typical Laura D thing and turned up for the first set only. Not seen Eden before. She took a while to get going, but she has a solid game, with no major weapons and will be competitive in 15ks
First time seeing Ella play and it was little v large against Jodie. Ella is tiny, but she packs some power on serve and groundshots. She hustled Jodie and Jodie made far too many errors and was easily beaten. Jodie did break back a couple of times only to be broken again and as I've said before, she can get very down on herself and can lose focus easily.
Anna Loughlan was excellent. Again first time I've seen her play and she was an easy winner. Good all round game, especially her return of serve and she will have no problems adapting to senior tennis.
Didn't see much of Pitak the younger, but I predicted yesterday that she had a good chance as I didn't think too much of Alice's game.
Didn't see too much of Maia's match, but that was comfortable. Toby Smith not with her this week, one of the other Scottish coaches
Beth - I can see why her results are much improved of late. Very solid performance and seems to have become more consistent.
Not seen Gemma for a few years, but she is a very tall girl with a lot of power and you can see why she does well at juniors with a big serve and forehand. Isabelle made her work hard, but was the better player. Reminds me of Jodie in temperament.
The doubles went to form. Sam and Maia were the best pairing. Freya and Jodie started to gel and could be dangerous, but play each other next. Beth and Laura got through, but Laura didn't play well, so I would be surprise to see Sam & Maia against one of the foreign pairings in the final.
As for round 2 - it is wide open and I could make cases for all the players.

I had a quick chat to Beechy about the whereabouts of Eleanor Dean and he re-iterated what Katie B told me in Manchester in that she had not been seen since her last injury. So that might be it for Eleanor.
