Week 42 - Challenger ($50,000+H) - Las Vegas NV, USA (hard)

Match point Liam, 2nd serve and Opelka puts in a huge ace out wide. Liam will have to serve this out.

Opelkas first serve win % plummeted to 86%. Come on Liam. Serve this out!

Yes!

QF:  Liam Broady WR 196 defeated (8) Reilly Opelka (USA) WR 175 by 6-7(2) 7-6(5) 6-4  ban-woohoo.gif

Lost count of the number of match points he needed/break points saved in the tenth game of the final set!

Serves Opelka right for having parents who gave him a surname as a first (it can hardly be called Christian) name!   biggrin

Oh c'mon Liam, Opelka is trying to help you !

Edit : For pity's sake had the match actually finished there, SC ?!

Well done, Liam in getting over the line in a non classic of our time.

That last game was painful. Ugly from both players.

Liam marginally the better player I guess. Apart from the aces, there's wasn't much quality on display.

SF:  Evan King (USA) WR 231 vs Liam Broady WR 196

A chance?

Yep.  Wouldn't have posted the result otherwise.  wink  For what it's worth, I was following on bet365, which seems to be fractionally ahead of the ATP LS.

Withstood the bombardment and came through well. That win will take Liam back into the top 180.

SF: What SC said.

I didn't see the Liam vs Cam match. I assume Liam played rather better in that one ?

Live scores are always ahead of live stream. I have to resist the temptation to look at both as it rather spoils watching the stream when you already know the result of the next point.

Well done, Liam. Opelka really did show his age in that last set - great for Liam to take advantage. He deserved it.

I'd take Monica Niculescu to beat Opelka any day of the week, regardless of how well he happened to be serving. Her use of spin would be absolute torture for him.

Anyone have the slightest clue why Liam was attempting lobs against a 6'11 opponent whose volleying skills were at best ordinary and at worst, inept ?
