I'd say the opposite, very disappointing and lack of ambition. For a teenager to decide to play doubles makes no sense but maybe I'm biased as it's not the same sport in my eyes.

Hardly a teenager, he's 22. However I guess if doing well in doubles means he can continue financially whereas struggling in singles means he couldn't then it might have been his only option. However I would have thought they'd have continued to try and enter challenggr Qualies.

I agree with you he was highly thought of in Scotland and as far as I am concerned he hasn't given singles a proper go. However he was overlooked for a QWC at Wimbledon last year and then there was the fall out with the Scottish tennis organisation. Perhaps he became disillusioned? At the age of 22
Ironically there was an interview with Jonny on STV North tonight on the news programme Jonny is still hoping to compete in singles wants to emulate the Murrays in singles and doubles and aims to compete in the Olympic Games. The interview shows footage of Jonny hitting with his brother at Arbroath Tennis Club.
Horses for courses, but my immediate response to the result above was along the lines of "Well done!" Dustin Brown and Tim Pütz are both good players, and I wasn't at all sure that would be the result. A really fine win.
I think the two are eminently wise to be doing as they are doing. Many players get stuck in Futures playing the same people and the same events year after year until eventually there's no money left. If you play doubles well (and not all singles players do), why not go for it. As has been noted before, the two are playing far higher quality opposition in far more interesting tournaments: one can't help but think that it will be beneficial for every aspect of their games.
I think the fitness issues must have played a part too. The number of retirements that he suffered must have made him think that the number of wins on the Futures circuit required was unsustainable.
I'd still like Jonny to sign in for qualifying singles for challengers when the opportunity arise. Bambo does...
Ideally yes but if there are any lingering possible injury concerns then each week he would also be due to partner Scott who is certainly understandably doubles focused now and needs a fit partner.
For now they are heading quite quickly in a very good direction in doubles to hopefully a place where they can really make it all begin to pay.
