Week 41 - Challenger ($100,000) - Fairfield, CA, USA (hard)

Good wins all round, especially for Alex. He is clearly hitting the ball well. Last week, although he went out in R1, he lost 7-5 7-6 to Darian King who has made it through to play Cam in the final. With regard to Alex on clay for DC, my first question has to be - when does the new rule about picking 5 man teams come into force ? That will clearly affect the situation.

I understand the 3 Kings are all sponsored by Leyton Orient. IGMC

the new 5 man teams kick.in for next season, so will apply for this match. Early days but that could lead to kyle, cam and alex all being picked with Jamie and Dom.

We shouldn't rule Liam out either given his recent form

And Jay has been playing on clay more than any of the others and Leon obviously wants to build him into a team member, and took him last time.

Should be some interesting options then at least from a Gb perspective. Still doesnt help the fact Spain will be tough cookies

Damn you, Jon:  I had that - albeit the doctored "We four Beatles of Liverpool are...." version, for some strange reason - on the brain all the way to Sainsbury's & back! wink

Regarding Alex for the Davis Cup in Spain, almost as soon as the tie was announced I put his name out there in the Davis Cup tie thread subject to reasonable fitness and form to no response. Certainly the finess and form look not bad just now and yes the new five man team makes his inclusion look more of a possibility, then say at the venue his form could be assessed against a generally better but not so clay happy other selection. At the time I suggested that Alex could maybe challenge Cam for a place in the team, but with the five man team and if Andy is not playing they could go with both Cam and Alex along with Kyle. Though yes Liam and Jay add other names to consider, which is good to see, and there is a fair time to go yet.

Liam and Jay are the Q1 seeds in the doubles and have a bye to the FQR. Their opponents will be decided today.
