R32 GREY, Sarah Beth (GBR) 765 v HEISE, Priscilla (FRA) 405 CH (18/09/2017) Third match on today
R32 MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) 525 v TUBELLO,Alice WC UNR (16 years old) (Junior ranking 589)
The 16 year-old, Tubello, beat Tiegan Aitken in the semis two months ago, on her way to the G4 title in Luxembourg. She also defeated Anna Loughlan last autumn. (Just as an aside, she also beat Jade Lewis quite easily a couple of months or so ago too).
She has a 'numbered' ranking, N57 (as opposed to the tiered ones like -15, -4/6 etc.) and so - in theory - is stronger than the three yesterday, including Adler (although they were 1-1 in head-to-heads last year). She made the QFs of the nationals (losing a close three setter), and has some pretty good victories in her result sheet (she's another typical French junior with about 80 matches under her belt this year). She's certainly a lot better than the 14 year-old whom Sam beat yesterday - the slightly startling thing about her is that 12 months ago, she was very 'ordinary' in terms of decent player. And suddenly she absolutely took off and went flying up the rankings.
Heise is N17, which is strong. And she's currently at pretty much her CH in the WTA rankings too (about 410) so obviously playing well. But, at age 27, there's the feeling that she's plateaued - does well at 15ks (won a couple, made a couple of finals recently), and sometimes gets through a round or two at the more expensive tournaments (although France has a lot so you've got more chance). Not a player on the up, I would say.
In the doubles, Em+ are seeded second and have a bye. Sam is playing with Thandi, and Beth is playing with Barritza.
