Whether they care I don't know. My concern is that the several million those events will take to run in prizemoney and costs is money that could be spent better elsewhere and so it is much the better if a sponsor is paying for it all.
The financial services companies such as barclays and aegon seem to be moving away from tennis currently, not sure where the next one would come from but hopefully someone will pick the events up.
Yes, Roger Draper was a pretty smooth operator ( far too smooth for many! ) but he and his then cohorts made very useful sponsorship deals. And it is clearly an important area.
Apparently since aegon pulled out, none of our summer events have a sponsor including Queens.
That's a little concerning, particularly Re the smaller events. Hop they are close to a deal behind the scenes.
Why would they care, British Tennis organisations are only interested in the Elite and making money out of Queens and Wimbledon. Queens with its elitist members club, public schoolboys and middle class pimms snobs. Plenty of dosh coming in for their purposes, wont bother them in the slightest, pretty sure any loss made by the other smaller events will be covered by the profits that come naturally anyway. Naturally only the players not in their elitist club that will suffer, but theyve not cared for years so why should they now.
For me Queens club represents all that is wrong with our Tennis in this country, cant stand the tournament.
Queens Club members have no say whatever in the tournament. The tournament is owned and run by the LTA Wimbledon hegemony.
Elitism in British tennis starts and ends with Wimbledon who basically control everything. They scatter some annual corn to the LTA who largely recycle it back into Wimbledon shoulder events to keep the merry-go-round running.
Trouble at top.martin corrie has stepped aside while an investigation goes on into the handling of a sexual assault allegation under his watch in a previous role.
Not sure where to post this. Lta have announced two new ATP Challenger mens events, Glasgow in late April, early may and Loughborough in mid to late may. Both are $100k events and indoor hardcourt. They seem to be independent of Andy playing but clearly they hope he will make one or both. I don't know rules on ranking level for challenge events but presumably Lta and ATP have that sorted and of course nishikori recently came back with two events at that level whilst still ranked top 30 I believe.
I guess we have to welcome it although part of me thinks hardcourt in clay season is not a good move
Putting 2 and 2 together, the announcement is the Andy Murray thread in the err Andy Murray section even though yes Andy is not mentioned anywhere in it.
And indeed not quite sure they just thought - spiffing idea chaps, let's add a couple of challengers with the first one in let's say Glasgow.
Be really interesting in what sort of general entry they get for two belatedly announced hard court challengers in the clay season leading into the grass season. Certainly get the Brits anyway ...

The LTA have announced a shortlist of tennis centres for National Academy role. Loughborough, Bath, Stirling, Culford & Bisham Abbey.
New programme aimed at 14+ charge 5k for 35k worth of coaching.
Article in Daily Telegraph..
New sponser announced for Nottingham, Birmingham, and Eastbourne
"Nature Valley is to become the new title sponsor for the Lawn Tennis Associations prestigious ATP and WTA tournaments at Nottingham, Birmingham, and Eastbourne.
For the next three years the events will be known as the Nature Valley Open, the Nature Valley Classic and the Nature Valley International respectively."
Watching the LTA Loughborough Trophy tournament and all of those empty seats - pity the LTA didn't offer free seats to local tennis club juniors and local schools. Might get a few more children interested in playing!
I know I've never understood the LTA rating system (and ranking system?). And probably never will. (Two systems??? Why???)
But I was just looking at the entry list for the British Tour at the Tier 1 at Paddington next week and thought:
how can you possibly have a system where these men are all 1.1, the very highest rating possible?
1 Ben Jones 1.1 Suffolk
2 Joseph Newman-Billington 1.1 Yorkshire
3 Michael Shaw 1.1 Buckinghamshire
4 Lamar Bartley 1.1 Surrey
5 Brandon Murphy 1.1 Surrey
6 Jack Gibbens 1.1 Surrey
7 Bradley Buckland 1.1 Derbyshire
8 Sizya Kivanda 1.1 Middlesex
9 Liam Hignett 1.1 Hampshire & Isle Of Wight
11 George R Davies 1.1 Middlesex
12 Cheraag Bajwa 1.1 Middlesex
13 Nicholas Nugent 1.1 Surrey
The LTA says that the rating indicates your 'standard of play'.
So, with due respect to the players above, is the LTA truly saying that Liam Hignett and Jack Gibbens (randomly chosen) represent the very highest standard of play in the UK? That that's the best we want or acknowledge? That after that there's nowhere to go in British tennis?
Because, if so, the problem is obvious (and laughable) .....
