Would be good to think so. But the Top seed in qualifying has just played his QR2 match and clearly he would have been first up for an MD place if one were available. So it looks like an injury sadly. Just hope it's nothing more than a niggle that can easily be shaken off.
And neither of the top two qualifying seeds were entered for the main draw. Would an available MD place not go to the first alternate?
I think their only way in other than by qualifying would be a WC so unless a WC position was freed up ( or would even that go to a LL at this stage of qualifying? )

One Alt, Stefan Kozlov, has already got in and all WCs are also placed. I had forgotten (or better said, never fully understood) the system for players getting bumped up to MD in Challengers. Given what you said, I am right in thinking that it is therefore the highest rank MD applicant and not necessarily the highest ranked player in qualies ?
Of course as Jay didn't enter the MD as you have stated, then it is irrelevant anyway. But in general, theoretic terms, (and for future reference), is it therefore possible for someone seeded 2 in qualies to get promoted (because they entered for MD) when the top seed has to still play qualies (because they didn't).
To add some intrigue, Jay is just about to start in the Doubles Qualifying playing with Liam (according to the live scores app on the ATP). They are playing Chappell and Saraiva. Not sure why Jay would withdraw from singles qualies and then play doubles if he was injured?
Infuriating when there is no actual draw available, so I'm guessing a bit:
QR1: Liam Broady & Jay Clarke CR 931 (646+285) vs (q2) Nick Chappell & Bernardo Saraiva (USA/POR) CR 915 (582+333)
Hi SC, that looks right, there only appears to be 4 pairs in the qualies, the FQR is on after some singles tomorrow.
Infuriatingly also, all of the GB players playing singles tomorrow, Liam, Brydan and Alex Ward are all scheduled to be playing at around the same time, second on for each of them NB 19.30 UK time (1130 local).
That's a fairly horrifying BP statistic, and actually 1/17 in the ATP stats. No doubt plenty deuce decider return points lost and not too surprisingly they won more points in the match than their opponents but that's not what it's about.
Their return points in total 29-42 were made up of winning most of the non BP return points 28-26 ( quite a feat combined with only breaking once ) but being 1-16 on BPs.
Liam plays Mitchel Krueger not before 19:30 GMT on the stadium court, so we should have some tennis to watch tonight. After his heroics in Aptos and St Petersburg I think we all have high hopes...
Hi all,
Just to clear things up.. Jay was gutted not to play singles yesterday. There was some confusion our end and he ended up withdrawing a day late from a futures in Italy.. because of ITF rules he was not allowed to compete.. it is discretionary but they would not allow him
to play. Onwards and upwards.. big learning curve for us all.
