What a tournament for Alice.

Alice has picked up as many WTA singles points this week as all the other British women put together.

Very close first set - lots of breaks - but Alice loses the set 4-6

Interrupted 2-0 down.
She's not going to win. Tank the rest of the match, take the pay check and make sure you get through qualifying.....

The match finally ends... I see that all the matches are now being played on outdoor hard courts. They've given up on the clay in the rain.

SF: GILLAN, Alice (GBR) Q UNR lost to BHATIA, Riya (IND) 1 589 CH=510 28/8/17 4-6 2-6

Standout week; hopefully providing a springboard, and the belief that will allow her to at least start making $15K MD's regularly, and thus the chance of further points and steady progression.

Alice has her third counter coming off on on Monday and another soon after from Stellenbosch last year - but very good week smile

Not confusing it with this this Colombo counter adding on Monday week, 16/10? Both her other counters are from Stellenbosch and come off on 13/11 and 20/11. So she has a little grace period and another week in Sri Lanka hopefully to add a fourth counter.

They are still struggling to finish this tournament. Riya Bhatia has won the singles final, but Josephine Boualem, her opponent, still had a QF doubles match to play... which she one, and now the second doubles SF and F have been rescheduled yet again for tomorrow, Tuesday, on hard courts... Some lesson about trying to play tournaments on outside courts during the monsoon season in Colombo...

As for week 41, Q1 matches have finally happened today...

Colombo is on the southern west coast. It's not meant to be its monsoon season turn. It should just stop at the end of September

I think the best advice in your post is the following: 'Whilst planning any holiday around the seasons, its important to remember that the worlds weather has a funny habit of not sticking to script, and this is never truer than in Sri Lanka. You will often be blessed with clear blue skies in what should be rainy season, or with torrential downpours in the middle of the dry season.' biggrinbiggrin
