Week 39 - Challenger ($100,000) - Tiburon CA, USA (hard)

The Cam bandwagon keeps on rolling. Great to see.

7-5, 4-1 trainer on for Mmoh. Always like watching and listening to Mike Cation on the USTA streams, puts clowns like Castle to shame.

 Not hard to do.....cry

Brilliant - both that Cam won and that Mmoh lost (although I don't wish injury on him, of course).

I also like Mike C!  Unlike most English commentators, he knows what he is talking about, and he knows when to shut his  mouth!  Play starts at 19:00 GMT with Luke and David playing their semi final. Next match up is Cam.

SF: (WC) André Göransson & Florian Lakat (SWE/FRA) CR 2001 (1074+927) def. (2) Luke Bambridge & David O'Hare (IRL) CR 276 (140+136) 6-3 7-5

Still remember Florian as a tiddler, age 8 or so, who overslept (along with his Dad) and was 40 mins late for his match and nearly got disqualified .....

Only saw about 10 mins of the semi-final match but the result seemed fair.

Comfortable enough win for Cam, but it was only a competent performance, not a brilliant one. It is good to get to a challenger final without playing your very best. 6 DFs in two short sets is quite high. Anyway, congrats to Cam.

Certainly never in any real doubt, way too relaxing to watch

As mentioned previously, that win will definitely take Cam into the top 150 and he has now made 4 Challenger singles finals, 3 this year.

It also means that 2017 is already the 2nd best year this century for GB appearances in ATP Challenger singles finals, with 8, behind last year (11) and just ahead of the year before that (7) - the only year this century with more than 5 appearances before 2015 was 2005, the year Andy Murray won two titles as he transitioned to playing the main tour full time.

Not sure how many points Cam has to defend but I would like to see him target Brisbane and Auckland ATP in preparation for the Australian Open MD.

Making Auckland MD would be special for him I am guessing.

H2H 2-2 - 1-2 in 2016 (Cam won 6-2 1-0 ret. in Tulsa, Tennys 7-6(4) 6-3 in Cary and 6-2 6-7(3) 6-3 in Columbus) and 1-0 in 2017 (Cary again, Cam won 6-3 2-6 6-2) - they are also seeded 8 and 2 in Stockton next week, but there they are seeded to meet in the QFs.
