Heather often seems better at winning sets on BPs than on her own serve at the moment. 1-6 6-4

Better news: Anna & Nicole make the draw of a Premier 5
R32: Anna SMITH/Nicole MELICHAR (GBR/USA) 105 (56 + 49) v. Daria GAVRILOVA/Barbora STRYCOVA (AUS/CZE) 65 (54 + 11)

Sadly Heather is showing that her current level of play is lower than her present ranking, not higher. She cannot sustain any pressure, because her serve - and nerves - are too fallible.

Glad to see Anna and Nicole reach the main draw - but would really like to see them have at least one win on this occasion. However the draw doesn't favour it. Anna seems better at coping with good doubles players, than good singles players playing doubles, and that's because I guess the latter have more to their games, even if not all the net and playing together experience. But Anna and Nicole have had many more losses than wins in their last several tournaments, so it is a good question - and challenge - as to whether they can be competitive at this level.

I would also like to see Joss back playing too.

From a break up in the third. Just cannot close. Serving things out has totally ruined her past two seasons. She creates the opportunity but can't see it through

So disappointing from Watson. It's clear she just doesn't enjoy tennis after Wimbledon. Think it's a good move entering Luxembourg as that's at least nearer to home. Maybe she should spend more time in America after the US Open and try and do what Naomi, Katie and Laura are doing on the ITF tour. Surely winning some ITFs is better than going into the next year on the back of horrible losing streaks?

Welcome nickw. It's partly points. Heather still got 20 pts for the Q1 win... and she has 30 points coming off this week. So much harder really for her to replace those through ITFs. Heather did drop down into ITFs for a while this season and didn't like it. But she needs to sort out her psychology. The number of winning positions she has thrown away are far greater than the ones she has gone onto hold (and then often only through making life unbearably difficult for herself). It is a confidence thing, not wholly sure the ITF tour will help. Naomi is not particularly thriving on it either at the moment.

She is an exasperating player to follow and root for. I found it much better upon taking a much more relaxed approach, accepting how she is. If you follow her like you might follow your favourite football team, it will shorten your life expectancy.

Barty easily dispatched Bellis, and so steps up as Johanna's first opponent.
Hopefully the result will be the same straight sets win for Jo as in their match at Nottingham this year.
