Davis Cup 2018 World Group R1 - Spain v Great Britain - 2-4 February

I guess that team was expected. Presumably they will start with Kyle and one of Cam or Liam and Jamie and Dom will be a certainty for doubles start...

All I know is that Rafa definitely won't be in it.  wink

Personally I think Kyle should do the "patriotic" thing, give Cilic a walk over in the AO SF, so he can head to Spain to prepare for DC and give himself more time to acclimatize to the clay.  wink

Strong as expected. All the top guys apart from Rafa are playing

Mind you, GB has the only AO singles player still left in and the only doubles player as well, so maybe we can look at it positively!

So apart from Nadal their five highest ranked singles players.

Could the entire tie come down to a rematch of Kedders v Busta a la Cartagena in 2013. Might be a few more people watching this time. I would hope for a different result too.

Well at least Davis Cup doesn't really test singles strength in depth !

I assume that's Lopez and Carreno Busta for the doubles, the others just on the face of it don't seem to have great doubles pedigree.

Hmm, Spanish could rest Busta for day one, might as well for them, save Busta. Have him play dubs then match him against Kedders if they need to. As ever the dubs will be critical. In a couple of years we'll have Jay for the clay and dubs...

2018 couldn't have really started better with Kyle doing so well, however from a DC perspective I think we may be ruined.

Remarkably I now see him as a precious comodity and just want to see him rested. With all the injuries keeping top players out of the AO I would seriously think of restricting selection to players outside the top 30 this year. Reducing it to three set matches in singles etc...

Just read this mornings Gaurdian article and it appears Kyle is as focused on DC as ever. What I did like was attitude to the second slot, ie. who ever plays is the best we have got, they should obviously give it their all but take everything from it they can as a development opportunity.

I am sure this reflects how he has seen DC and also his continued passion for it. We just need a few more players in the frame to share the load and enjoy the ride.

Could do. Busta would have to come in for whoever was the Spanish #1 of their two players on day one, ie whoever played our #2.

Are you sure that's right? Surely he can come in for whoever?

I meant if he was to play Kyle. He can I assume play Kyle iff Spain change both their Day 1 players. However, if the original Spain #1 who played our #2 on Day 1 appears on Day 3 then that player has to play Kyle. Assumes that Kyle plays both Day 1 and Day 3 which is a kinda reasonable assumption.
