Qualifiers not decided yet. Brits could meet in round 2. Hope one of them goes deep this week. Naomi could do with a big points score if she's to have any chance of Aus main draw.

Katie gets lucky loser Catherine Leduc (CAN) WR 997 (CH 869 in Jul) - almost as kind(-looking) a draw as Luke's reward for qualifyng in Columbus!

As it happens, the aforementioned Leduc has already suffered a Brit inflicted loss here:
R16: Broady/Falconi (GBR/USA) [4] 430 (84 + 346) defeated Kissell/Leduc (USA/CAN) 2092 (1068 +1024) 6-1 6-2

Katie looked to have played a pretty impeccable first five games, and went *5-0. It's been much closer since, but the first set was duly secured, 6-2 *3-2

Well done Katie, 14 points is useful for starters. The points roughly double by round here.
Hopefully we can guarantee that at least one, and sadly only possibly one, Brit gets 28 points when Naomi plays later today to determine Katie's R16 opponent.
The draw looks somewhat favourable in their half generally if they can exploit it.

Naomi was 0/7 on break points and lost all 8 games that went to deuce. So actually had plenty chances.

Here's hoping Katie's game more suited to defeating Min then...

Clearly Naomi got very well into a lot of games and the 13 games played averaged nearly 8 points a piece with all these deuces pointed to, so the extent of the final scoreline could certainly be said to be harsh. It's good to have some context. That said, she has clearly still been very soundly beaten I'm afraid.

Ultimately Min has won almost all the games, however long they were, and since singles games are still thankfully each won by at least two points that still has been on the back of a pretty big points difference of 64-38 ( 32-19 on both serve and return ).

Yes, hopefully Katie can give it a much better shot.

Naomi's service didn't seem to cause as much trouble as it used to. Either Naomi wasn't serving up to her usual standard or Min is particularly good at returning service.

Naomi doesn't have a usual standard of serve these days.

But yes, didn't look at all like one of the good ( let alone very good ) days.

It's not that option. Min is the worst player I have ever seen that reached the Top 100. Yes, even worse than Julia Cohen!
