Week 38 - Challenger ($75,000) - Columbus - OH, USA (hard)

Good to see some fight from Alex in that service game and at least he has made Pavic serve for the match.

3-5*

Sadly, not to be for Alex:

Final:  (ALT) Ante Pavic (CRO) WR 425 defeated (PR) Alex Ward WR 566 by 6-7(11) 6-4 6-3

Still not a bad week for him.

Sadly not to be. Don't know about anybody else but I thought Alex's shot making looked a little tired in the third set. Not quite enough in the tank in the end but congrats to Pavic. Great week for both finalists.

Pity, but Pavic was clearly the stronger player in that 3rd set and deserved the win.

Still a great week for Alex though. Hope he can stay fit and use this as a springboard for even better things to come.

I was going to say something exactly like that and suggest that the many injuries that Alex has had to cope with have probably affected his stamina.  It's been a long week for him.  Didn't want to get accused of making excuses for a Brit though so stuck with "Pavic was the stronger player in the 3rd and deserved the win".  wink

Pavic served better and better and got his returns back in court, which he wasn't doing earlier in the match. Alex made a few more errors and the third set was never in doubt.
