Not sure if anyone else here follows Bambo on twitter but he posted some of the abuse he got from some punter following this match and it is horrifying. I know the anonymity of twitter can make people feel as though they can say what they want without consequences but honestly I don't know how sick you would have to be to write some of what Bambo shared and I can understand any player who chooses to skip social media altogether in light of the abuse.
Luke's "this takes the bacon" is putting it mildly !!!
I am thinking this is not someone you reason with that the "19 year old boy" he lost to is 18 with a JCH 18. Quite apart from of course all he did was lose a tennis match and if the tweeter lost a big bet ( often the underlying non excuse ) that's entirely their problem. No doubt Luke's odds were quite decent against the "19 year old boy" for some strange reason ...

Luke's reply has been re-tweeted by a few people. It really is horrible, I think a few tennis players have "shared" the abuse, wasn't Jay Clarke another? I think Jo or Heather might've had some abuse too. Nice to see O'Mara stand up to the abuse as well.
Truly awful. I don't do Twitter but can you, at the very minimum, block people???
You can but these types often make bogus accounts just to hurl abuse and when they are blocked or reported just go away and make another account. I think it is far worse for the female players to be honest as they tend to get threats of a very personal nature directed at them, I know on a couple of occasions the extent of the hostility has been cited as a reason for poor performance with tournaments in Eastern Europe being especially badly affected.
Totally agree about the disgusting comments made to Luke. People like these make me sick.
With regard to the platform however, if I am not mistaken, the original comments were on Facebook. Luke then tweeted the screenshot of the Facebook comments. I am not a tech wizard, so I may be wrong on this, and in the bigger picture of course, it doesn't matter where it is. It is still disgusting.

They were on Instagram, for what it's worth.
The main problem I have with all of these types of site is that the "default setting" is to allow you to receive messages from literally anyone, without any sort of consent on your part.
It clearly is open to abuse, and I can't immediately think of any benefits to it.
