Harriet & Francesca cruise into the SF, 6-2 6-4
They'll play either top seeds Elbaba/Hsu, or qualifiers Duval/Kleybanova! - there must be some reason as to why such a distinguished pair had to qualify, considering Sabrina got a WC partnering an unknown UNR American.
The QF for Laura D and Eva is the last scheduled match of the day.

This tournament is held on the courts of Texas Tech and so players from the uni have a good shout when it comes to wildcards - they certainly generate good support plus an extra reason for the host to give up their facilities for the week. Sabrina and her partner Sarah are the #1 pair at Texas Tech, have been well ranked and performed well in national college events. One player from the other wildcard pair is also at Texas Tech. Whilst distinguished, neither Duval and partner have a dubs ranking and I don't think players can enter on their singles ranking in ITF. Had it been singles though, I'm sure they'd have got WCs ahead of the college players - but the college kids would have taken all the QWCs.
And that would certainly qualify as a reason
Especially in America, all oter things being equal, you'd hope that at the very least, Vicky Duval would get a sympathetic hearing for any WC.
Meanwhile, Harriet leads by an early break, 4-2*

It's a dollars and dimes business Texas Tech are providing all the facilities so it's not unreasonable to expect a wildcard for their best doubles team in recent history/ever who having gained the first ever doubles invite are preparing for the Rivera tournament featuring the best doubles teams in college tennis.
Harriet won 2 & 2 That will probably take her back into the top 300 on Monday week and she has made the SFs for the loss of just 1.5 games per set on average

Texas Tech tried quite hard to recruit Harriet she did well last year here so very nice for her to go back again this year and do better.
Haha, you mean nice for her being able to rub it in their faces? What better for her than to win the tournament and take out all the TCU WC's on route. That'll put a smile on all their faces when handing over the trophy. Anyhows, she'd have been better off going to College and that's not even said in hindsight. Some College like TCU....

Good stuff by Harriet. Maybe beginning to have increasing confidence in her own ability. And her chosen route seems to me to be working out pretty well.
