Week 38 - Australia F4 ($25,000+H) - Alice Springs (hard)

Rhett Purcell should be in the main draw.

Which is really weak for a 25K - only 8 players within the top 1000, and one of those is a PR. As a comparison, this week's 25k in France has 24 players in the top 1000.

QR1: Michael Faulkner (GBR) UNR - BYE

QR2: Michael Faulkner (GBR) UNR v David Barclay (AUS) UNR (CH 1576 July '13)

Rhett Purcell should make a welcome reappearance in the main draw.

I wonder how much it would cost to do this swing of Australian 25ks. With some weaker than normal 25ks could be a good chance of points.

There really isn't much point unless you have friends or family out there, a developing player is better off getting going in North Africa/Turkey and then testing themselves on the Spanish/Italian/Croatian circuit or doing the US summer swing. Similarly an established player coming back can pick up points cheaply again in North Africa/Turkey before hitting challenger qualifying

Most of the tournaments are on the East coast and some of them are driveable (3-5 hrs) which would cut costs.

The week break before the challenger would have to be filled.

A couple of years ago one of these was held in Melbourne but that one was shelved.

Traralgon is my closest one now which is a 2 hr train journey but probably worth it as it's the challenger.

Rhett keeps up his record of one singles point per quarter this year ...

L32: Rhett Purcell WR 1112 beat (Q) David Barclay (AUS) UNR by 6-4 7-6(5)

L16: Rhett Purcell WR 1112 v (8) Blake Ellis (AUS) WR 1053 (=CH; 18yo junior CH 23 in Jul)

Ellis might be a bit tougher than his ATP ranking implies, being a top 30 junior, but this event is ludicrously weak for a 25K+H, isn't it? The 7th seed here is outside the top 1000 whereas Ed is seeded 7 at Plaisir 25K+H based on a ranking in the top 400 and even the last DA there was ranked just outside the top 600 at the entry date.

Yes, it's become even weaker than when I put up the original post about it - when there were only 8 top 1000 players on the acceptance list, and France had 24 - because the top seed on the list didn't show for some reason. Although Dane P is playing with a PR and he is top 1000, so the 7th seed is only 8th best. But, either way, it's ridiculous, really - I wonder if the organisers mind? Whether they feel shortchanged? Or don't care a fig because its 99% Aussie (save for Rhett)?

In the dubs QF, Rhett and Olly lost to the top seeds, 4-6 0-6

I think next week will be stronger. Most players will start the tour then as Alice Springs is a bit far and would cut down costs a lot.

Rhett is the only non Aussie left in the draw, 15 Aussies and a Brit!

Constant is correct, next weeks list has 20 players in top 1000 and some names like Omar Jasika and Luke Savile to spice things up a little. Rhett is 7th alt for next week
