Week 37 - ITF ($60K) - Las Vegas, NV, USA Hard

Nevertheless, the top seeds wrap up a routine win against the unseeded locals shortly thereafter. 6-0 6-2

Katie lost in straight sets

In their first meeting, KB tossed in so many errors that she handed the match to her opponent. Fair chance it was a similar story here.

Katie was second in every stats category - 36 points to 64 says it all cry

This sounds like a slide from the performances that earned her a deserved slam MDWC. Let's hope she can rediscover form.

I'm not sure I see it that way.

Allie Kiick was a real high flyer, ranked 137 at age 19 and then had cancer and, separately, four knee surgeries which kept her out of competition for over 2 years.

She's now back and fully fit, thank goodness, so - although Katie may well have had a poor game, no idea - it's not surprising that Allie's zooming through the draws.

Laura R off to a torpid start, 0-1*

(Edit: with two DF in that opening game, too)

Recovers immediately.
Zarazua has had 7 BP already, despite Laura serving at 71.4%. The second serve is getting destroyed (16.7% won).
She'll need to keep that 1st serve % up if that all continues. Hope to break again, and build pressure in the other direction.
2-1*

This event is listed as being covered by the USTA service on their website, but it appears not; or, perhaps, not yet this week. Maybe it begins for the later rounds, and if Ms. Robson prevails, we'll see her then.

Laura 3-2*

She's fairly strong odds on favourite on bet365 at 2/5.

A bit ominously MTO at 5-6* with Laura just having been broken ( now 1 break to 2 ). Odds removed on bet365.

Got back underway with a 22 point game in which Laura had 5 BPs in all and saved 3 SPs but not a 4th.

5-7

Bit quiet here. Everyone go off to find what money they could afford to put on Zarazua when I mentioned the odds? Shameful behaviour!

Anyway 3 breaks to start the 2nd set with Laura the net loser in that.

5-7 1-2*

C'mon, Laura !

Zarazua has had the one service game hold in the set.

At least you can get out of Las Vegas sooner... except she's still in the doubles...
This is serious... I'm gonna need the strong stuff: a double Dandelion & Burdock - whoa!
