I believe Laura Robson should be in the MD too. And Katie Boulter.

Kiick is underranked as she has only just returned after suffering skin cancer and had two knee surgeries. She qualified for the US Open so is getting her form back.

Van Nguyen is struggling for form almost as much as Laura is so that should be interesting.

Sam Murray thrashed van Nguyen 0 & 2 in Gatineau, so here's hoping that's the form the American brings against Laura R.

Las Vegas eh. At this point Laura is more likely selecting her tournaments based on which part of the world she'd like to spend a couple days in. The tennis side of things has long become a forgone conclusion.

Not a bad way to work; don't we all wish that we could choose which part of the world to work in on a week-by-week basis?

True, but it's not quite as simple as that and this is the logical tournament for Laura to have entered this week - there are only two ITFs above 25K on this week, Las Vegas and Biarritz (a very nice place indeed or at least it was a couple of decades ago when I spent a couple of days there) and the latter is on clay.

Speaking personally, there is no more wretchedly soul-destroying place on Earth that I have ever had the misfortune to visit than the greasy, noisome streets of Las Vegas; where the fetid stench of desperation and hopelessness looms from every corner, every crack in the sidewalk, overwhelming and suffocating you with it's dead-eyed, singular obsession. The human spirit, having been deemed unprofitable, has been ruthlessly exterminated, leaving the veneer of reality stretched far too thin over the sordid, squalid, dark heart of the city.
I pity anyone who has to go there; for any reason.

On the other hand; my sister enjoyed it. Different strokes...

Biarritz (clay or not) vs Vegas would be no choice for me. I have been to many American cities in different parts of the country (including Richmond VA, where I believe Steven is now), but fortunately not Las Vegas, and I would agree with you blob, it holds no appeal for me whatsoever. It does indeed always come across as completely soulless, a destructive art that many American cities have perfected relatively well, but none with quite the same singularity. Laura and Katie are very welcome to their weeks there, may they gain some points and move on safely.

An entry for our Forum Poet Laureate Award ???

Great stuff.

Never been - but it always rains in Biarritz, that's all I know.

Surely you could have described the rain a little more eloquently, painted more of a picture.................
