QR1: Tara Moore WR 328 vs (q6) Usue Maitane Arconada (USA) WR 246 (CH 218 in June), aged 18, JCH 5

Naomi should be in the main draw.

Apparently this is the last regular WTA tournament played on carpet ( uniturf ).

4 of the 6 qualifiers will all be in the bottom quarter of the main draw, particularly grouped with the 2nd seed.

Q vs Q
Q vs (2) Dodin (FRA)

Tara finally gets to court, last of the day.
Tara competitive, but still up against it, 5-7 *2-2
Second serve being dismissed.
And... DF to concede the break. 5-7 2-3*

At 5-4 in the 2nd Usue was serving for the match. Tara then broke, held to love and broke again to take the set.

This is Tara's best performance for months, by the looks of it - still a lot to do to win it, but 5-7 7-5 *1-1 now

13 losses in a row. Yeeesh. Awkwardly, the first of which was against her doubles and (almost) life partner, Connie Perin. Gotta be a tough evening convo . Seriously though, I do feel for her. She's lost her way and the end of the season can't come soon enough. Here's hoping she can take a moment and re-engage her game.

Sorry Steven I know you like to see the positive in most things which is admirable but 12 Double faults in 6 service games can't really be described with the word best. 17 in total as well, it's horrible form frankly.

Tara's from seems to have coincided with her engagement to Connie, you've got to wonder if the tennis and romance being so closely linked, travelling etc if this works. There have been few if any of these scenarios that work. Wozniacki with yon boring Golfer chap she plummeted down the rankings. Heather and Lloyd, went from nearly beating Serena at Wimbledon to outside the top 100 and Lloyd from a career high ranking to 200 places down.

The life of a tennis player is tough. Probably one of the toughest sports. Got to admire the ones like Andy and Serena that make it to the top even more.

That's as may be, but it is still, probably Tara's best performance for months.

What it is is fairly horrible serving, but that is certainly nothing new even when, with multiple double faults and breaks, Tara was getting much better results. And she may at times have had a bigger DF ratio than the overall one per service game here. How I am sure she wishes she could sort that serve.

But compared to many matches recently ( and although we don't know how Arconada played ) that does look a pretty decent performance otherwise, more especially with that serve handicap. I think one can both say of course serve is a very important part of the game but still recognise that the rest of her game, the form of that, has seemed more encouraging.

With the run she has been on it would have been great for her to get a result here. A win first though here the 12 points would also have been useful.

Naomi is playing in the doubles too with Asia Muhammad (USA). They are the #4 seeds (84 and 82 respectively post US Open, but here with a combined total of 140).
