I was wondering why Suzy was in qualifying here, but see she is a late entrant, which is why. Provisionally in fact she could be the #4 seed in the main draw. And she will only need to play one q match, and that will be against an unranked player, whoever she plays.

Suzy back at it once again. After her run of 15 consecutive weeks playing, one fears that even the last three weeks off may not have been enough recuperation time.
But, you certainly can't fault her work ethic.

Lucky for Suzy the schedule has allowed the draw to be after qualifying so she gets her MD seeding.

Both Suzy and Emma are in the doubles too... and interesting their respective partners. Allows one to guess when they paired up! Suzy is playing with the Thai teenager she beat in qualifying, who has a doubles ranking, and which makes them the #3 seeds, and Emma is playing with Elaine her first round opponent.

I think Genovese has played in the UK a bit, so they may know each other beforehand.

Genovese played 5 ITF's in the UK in 2015. I think I saw her lose to Beth at Chiswick.

N.B. 16yo Sun is known as Lulu Radovcic on the WTA site but is now called Lulu Sun (as shown on ITF), having changed to her mother's surname after her parents split up - see bit.ly/nlulusun - she also has a sister called Phenomena, who also plays tennis but having been lumbered with the pressure of a name like that, well, you can guess ...

A great win for Emma. I note her opponent did a Tara and served 9 DFs which no doubt helped Emma.
