I rather expected a bit more from this regional with Vinny G (albeit beaten by another Brit), Calum McG and Julian C (as #1 seed in singles and dubs) involved
I've no idea how any of this ranks as such but many thanks for all the results, The O, and BIG CONGRATS to Aswin - winning the singles and runner-up in the doubles - that's a great tournament

Winning your regional is quite a big deal. All regions contain a mix of strong and weak teams so to come through or get to the latter stages means you've beaten players from some of the big 'names'. Also, it gets you to Indian Wells alongside those from the latter stages of the All Americans and other big events. I like to put all the results up as I know quite a few families of those looking to go follow this thread for background info etc and it lets them see how players they may know are faring. I also spot a number of names, CD, with a French flavour.......any you recognise from youngsters you have known in the past?
Thomas Laurent is the highest ranked French male college player and interestingly with his fellow Frenchman Dominic Clissold won the doubles tittle at the North West regionals.
I saw a bit of him last year, he is a tall but fairly agile lad who gave Fawcett (#10) a real run for his money when they played at the number 1 slot in the PAC 12 tournament. He beat him earlier that spring and had an overall 30-7 singles play record last year, an Oregan best. I wouldnt be at all suprised if he finished top 10 in the rankings as a junior.
As runner up in the singles, Emily A will be off to Indian Wells at the end of the coming week. A great effort in dubs too. Also quite impressed with Emma Wilson's run.

Thanks, The O.
Clément Marzol is the only one that I know really well, since he was little, and as part of the federation. But he's quite a long way off being pro-level. Hope he's enjoying college though.
Constant de la Bassetiere is very well known in general, because he was was of the very top French youngsters, part of the elite, winning prestigious events when he was only 14 and 15. Also, despite taking it a year early, he got the equivalent of three A*s in his Bac S (Science) which is why he went off to Penn a year early and stopped junior tennis (think he got to about 75).

I was surprised that neither Georgie Axon or Alannah Griffin from Auburn were in this and then spotted that Georgie hasn't played a match of any kind since May. Then in the back of my mind I remembered hearing something about a back injury for her. If I have remembered correctly (no guarantee!!) then it must be a relatively serious one for her to still be out.
