6. Emily Smith (Vanderbilt) v Andrea Garcia (Florida St) 4-1 susp
Dubs
3. Fernanda Contreras / Emily Smith (Vanderbilt) bt Julia Mikulski / Gabriella Castenada (Florida St) 6-3
So Emily and team off to the National Indoor Team Championships. Must admit somewhat surprised to see Emily playing at the bottom of the order for both singles and dubs.
3. Alex Valenstein / Lana Rush (Texas T) v Ting-Ya Hsu / Marta Bellucco (Wichita St) 5-4 susp
So Sabrina, Lana and team off the the National Indoor Champs. So good to see Lana playing again. She barely featured during her first 2 years at Florida State and wasn't even shown on the roster last year.
1. Emma Wilson / Georgia Lawson (Fresno State) bt #1 Samantha Harris / Kelly Chen (Duke) 6-2
Duke went on to beat Washington as so are the team advancing to the national event. They do have 2 Brits on the team, Rebecca Smaller and Ema Lazic but it doesn't look as if either are regularly making the line-up.
That's the end of the Kick-Off Weekend Results. I assume Stanford with Emily Arbuthnott are in the Indoor Nationals anyway by virtue of being NCAA finalists last year.

Vandy are very strong this year if Emily App joined them now even after playing the tour fulltime she would be ranked behind the Australian Astra Sharma by WTA ranking, having Emily at 6 will give them real depth with lots of high quality Americans wedge inbetween the two colonials. Depth down the order will make them competitive against the likes of Stanford. Indeed we will find out next weekend
