I already re-opened the thread earlier today. The reason why I closed it was because I agreed with The O's point of view and I didn't think anyone would care this much.
Thanks, Wolf. Please, please, my rant wasn't aimed at anyone specifically, the mods on this site do a great job, and your comment made me smile - you're right - I sort of asked myself beforehand if I should just file this under 'get a life/get over yourself, CD'. All I can say is that it did me good to unload so thanks for that too
PS And now, back to US college tennis - whatever the year.....

If anyone has the BTESPN it is worth tuning in to the conference championship football games that are broadcast coast to coast on prime time TV and generate the cash that pays for almost all the other sports scholarships bar basketball.
The PAC 12 game between USC OJ Simpson the actor is their most famous alumni and Stanford went to the wire with only three points in it. The athletes although big all look human ie much less evidence of PED use just some phenomenal athletes. British Tennis is very fortunate that they all stick to football lots of guys 65 capable of running 40yds in close to 4 seconds and catching a ball lobbed 80 yds to them one handed whilst being physically assaulted by two other players.
Ansolutely love the Stanford running back, a very macho position, who is second in the voting for best college player of 2017 whose aspiration is not to go to the NFL but be a paediatrician. I am sure however he will go but his contract will be so lucrative he will be able to buy his own hospital.

Final weekend of warm up before the colleges start their team tennis schedules. Stanford women sent split squads to two tournaments the stronger squad to Indian Wells featured Emily Arb #22, she had a mixed time, but lost twice to one family ie. the Italian Turati twins who are both at Texas. Blanca #10 is the stronger and has a senior high in the 462 (2015) before going to college her JCH was about 24, Emily lost in straight sets to both (bianca and Anna) 7-6 in second sets so competitive. Emily also dished out bakery products to USC no 1 and PAC 12 rival Gabby Andrews 6-1 6-1.
It seems some teams have already started - Old Dominion were in action on Saturday with two matches, and have more matches on Thursday and Saturday.
Holly Hutchinson played No 1 singles and doubles in both matches, with one singles win and two doubles wins.
Stanford Womens Tennis (Ranked Nationally #1) team kicked off their team season beating up local rivals St Jose State 6-1. Emily Arbuthnot (nationally #22) is playing No 2 up from 5 last season although Melissa Lord last seasons highest ranked player didnt play. Emily also played doubles in the No1 slot with Micheala Gordon they are #3 nationally.
Playing at No 2 means Emily will obviously play better players than last year but again will make it hard to penetrate much higher than about 20 nationally purely because the girls ranked at that level are generally playing at no 1. So she just wont see them.
Next weekend is a humdinger of a match with Stanford up against No2 Vandy. It could have been the battle of the Emilys had Emily App taken up her place at Vandy. Of course there would have been only one winner! Emily
Plenty of British interest this kick off weekend in The Bay Area. A cracking 4 way contest between Cal, Stanford, Tulane and Oregan with British players in the Cal and Tulane sides. Cal s no 2 pair in the doubles is all British, Jack Molloy and Ben Draper while Kilmarnock s finest Ewan Moore is part of the Green Waves no 1 team. Both matches going to 6-6 TB with Tulane victorious taking the doubles point, I think Ewan won hard to tell from the twitter feed but well up in the TB and Jack/Bens game stopped.
Ben Draper playing at No6 for Cal unfortunately was the first game to finish loosing 6-2, 6-3. Jack lead the Cal comeback playing at No3 bringing it back to 3-2 winning 6-2, 6-2. Another cal win bringing it back to 3-3
Ewans game was the clincher and he didnt start well loosing the first set 5-7 after that he popped open a can of Iron-bru and decimated the bruin 6-1 6-1 in the next two sets to clinch the match for the green wave.
In the other tie with no British Interst Oregan were up against Stanford. I winced a little when looking at the line up Stanford have the Wimbledon jjnior champion Axel Geller playing at No2!!! Unsurprisingly his singles game finished pretty shaping 6-1, 6-2. Stanford whooping Oregan 4-0
That puts Tulane up against Stanford in the final. Gawd help Tullanes No2 who is likely to get Gellered! Ah that would be Ewan .. but you never know... Iron Bru for breakfast?
As Oakie says, Kick-Off Weekend in college tennis. The first major team tournament of the year. Sixteen boxes of 4 teams for for men and the same for women. Teams invited to take part based on team rankings (think the rankings after last summer's NCAA national championships but not totally certain). Winners of each box go to the National Indoor Team Championships in February. I'll put up the results involving Brits as I have time over the next few days.
