Francesca Jones has a JCH of 31 and a JCH of under 50 suggests a player has potential and often leads to some shock results during their first few years on the main circuit.
Potential Fran certainly has. It's been noticed live by Oakland and some others on the forum quite apart from folk noting her junior results and ranking and some senior performances
Sorry, Peter, I misunderstood you. Too many Francescas !
Yes, no one has doubted Fran's potential - all the more amazing given her physical issues. Saw her twice in early summer and there was some great stuff. Oakie's point is valid, in that a JCH of 31 is not that amazing but she's not really focused on her junior ranking so it is what it is.
The physical issues are a worry, though, there's no getting round it - she's had SO many operations but it's not so much the marked impairment itself but the knock-on effects - she says herself that her wrist tendons, in particular, suffer hugely due to her grip.
But she has real talent, strength and determination in spades. No one could deserve it more.
Never really seen her play but what a story she has and still only 16, I do also worry though hearing about what she has to go through if that will hinder her once she gets to the magic 600 ranking spot that a lot can get to. At 16 her body is still growing as well. It's the next step going past this when going up to 25k and beyond that might be the problem. You've got to think that she's certainly deserving of a wee bit of LTA backing but as well know that's not always the case. It's a case of who you know in British Tennis and your family background that usually holds sway. Will certainly be interesting following her and I think out of all the teenagers just now she certainly deserves the most backing and support.
Considering how few players we had entered this week it's good to see 4 still in contention on a Friday. It's been a while since that was the case even with more than double that.
Two good wins, great to see Fran consolidating her defeat of the top seed yesterday. I didn't know anything about Fran's backstory either; sounds both inspiring and frightening, if she has been through several ops aged only 16. She's obviously talented, so I hope she can continue to stay healthier now. I guess her potential rate of progress - injuries notwithstanding - will also be determined by her educational goals.
Em's next match will be tougher, she faces Manon Archangioli, the #2 seed, who won at a canter today. Fran's opponent still to be decided. Could be the #6 seed but she is locked in a tight second set with an unranked 18 year old Swedish WC in a match that is currently suspended.

I was just lookng at this; not in terms of day of the week so much, although that's true, but in terms of the latter rounds reached. We have had 4, or more, through to the QF or better on now 8 occasions so far this year; the last time was in week 30, when we had 5, of which 4 came in the same event, the Dublin $15K. We had 19 entries that week though; this week we have only 6.
Our best was 7, in week 13, across four tournaments (Sharm, Istanvul, Mornington, Obidos). There were 21 entries that week.
So, the proportion of entries through to QF this week is pretty amazing. Unsurprisingly, this all makes this week amongst our best in terms of the ratio of entries/wins, currently at 1.500, placing it third. Our best week was 2.000 (week 1). The low number of entries doesn't really skew this, as poor performance by a few of a low number of entries counts equally against the overall total, and indeed, two of our worst four weeks were in weeks with the same number, or fewer, entries than the low number this week.
Well done ladies, and hoping for more
