I am no apologist for Nick Kyrgios, and I would have loved (and would yet love) to see the wonderful Mr Skupski get a spot. But I did think it was decent of Mr Kyrgios not to pull out of the doubles and can understand why players are reluctant to do so: it's not just your own chances you scupper, but also those of your partner. And in Matt Reid's case, this meant a lot more to him (especially financially) than it did to Mr Kyrgios.
I must admit that with Kyrgios'a shoulder issue I did immediately think he's meant to be playing doubles and Ken+ are first alts.
But as you say it's a bit tough to let a partner down, particularly one much less in the limelight. And apparently Kyrgios's shoulder wasn't preventing him continuing to blast down serves at a fair rate vs Millman, so like with much else one's never quite sure with Kyrgios.
Naomi Broady says in her Radio broadcast that Kyrgios is in fact a really 'nice guy' and a 'big softy'
Just saying.....
I like Nick but fear he might be another Monfils - often injured, prone to trick shots, wildly talented but doesn't harness potential.
Yes, he can be a total idiot - not disputing that. But we have all been 23 and an idiot, I'm older than that and still one! Except it doesn't get reported because I'm not famous.

Yes. I agree. I don't have any real problem with Kyrgios: he's young and a bit of a prat (the two often go together) but he's honest and I even admire some of his comments.
I have more problem with players like Fognini - very talented, handsome, but arrogant - AND old enough, in spades, to know better.
The Italian has just been fined $24k for three separate offences, including insulting the umpire. It's obnoxious and shows a lack of any desire to rein it in.
