Andy has 2290 ytd. If he doesn't play again this year, he will stay on 2290. As of now 2290 points will place him 19th in the full 12 month rankings as opposed to the race. So I guess we can expect to see him drop as far as edge of top 20. That would still allow him to be seeded in Melbourne. But boy, with Stan, Novak, nishikori, raonic, Monfils all in similar positions. Those Melbourne seedings could make for a very strange draw!

Yes indeed, Andy is 9th in the race. So if he doesn't add any points no-one below him must add enough points to overtake him by the end of the race for him to remain in "the lower reaches of the top 10" in the rankings by then. A slightly unlikely scenario, Mr Flatman !!! ( as I assume you know by now ).
As you say Jon, look at where 2290 points would likely place him in the rankings. Probably about 20th.

Flatman's obviously as bad at working these things out as I am. In fact, I don't even bother. I leave it to the anoraks on the board.
Well as a bunch of other players are also out, it's like the Delpo scenerio multiplied with Andy, Stan, Milos, Kei and Novak all out of th3 top 10 from around 11-20 something in the rankings.
As said above, the Australian Open is going to be quite interesting.
Probably off topic here, but Victor Estrella Burgos is playing Quito challenger this week despite being well inside the Top 100. Firstly how is this possible surely a Slam is mandatory, and secondly why would someone choose to play a challenger where even winning the tournament accounts for about 1/6 of a first round loss. He wasn't in qualifying last week and I'm fairly sure he was inside the top 100 at cut off time.
Anyone know why?
It seems strange when he was playing some of the warm up events.
At the time of the original entry list, Estrella Burgos was ranked 108 and was 11th alt. 6 alt's appear to have got in, so he was still 5 places short of main draw. Cecchinato is also the top seed in Como and was 7th alt and also failed by one place to reach the main draw.Neither of them chose to play qualies, which I dont think is mandatory. Hope that clears it up?
With a ranking of WR 108 on 17/07 he was a bit off the original cut and still out after alternates came in ( evidently has ended 5 out ).
Why he didn't enter into qualifying I don't know but he doesn't have to, it's only the main draw that is mandatory ( and irrelevant here, but I would guess just if you make the first cut ). So while his choices may puzzle there is nothing out of order.
Edit : beaten to it, but at least we pretty much agree

Cheers guys, I thought there must have been a reason, I didn't realise Victor was outside the cut. Makes sense now although still baffled that he played the warm up events but skipped qualifiers where again money can made a lot easier than in a weak challenger. Surely any tennis player would want to play a Slam. I appreciate Australia is expensive as I know and further away but the US is a lot nearer and by all accounts the Biggest Slam audience wise and it's New York after all.
Another wee anomaly I noticed was Shapovalov coming through qualifying and he is now ranked 69. That must be the highest ranked qualifier there has been. Again the cut off looking misleading. I can appreciate the logistics of why it's there for admin, hotels, flights, forward planning etc having said that. Also thought Dennis would have been a shoe in for a WC as well but the Canadian/American thing perhaps wouldn't have helped there.

Denis wasn't even the top seed! Leonardo Mayer was, he was ranked 52 last week!

That answers my question then at 52. The way the withdrawals are going that's nearly going to get you a seeding!
Know what you mean although in practice a qualifier here couldn't be seeded even if top 30 and fresh from winning the Canada and Cincinnati Masters ( and maybe still no MD WC if non-American ! - the remaining WCs anyway this year were all announced during Cincinnati ) since the MD seeds are announced, and indeed the MD takes place, before qualifying is concluded.
No coverage where I am - so any comments about the matches of Kyle and Cameron (and Heather) will be VERY gratefully received...
Go, GB !
I am watching on https://www.batmanstream.com/, although they have not put Cameron's match up there yet....I have been watching Kyle....looks like it will be close. Heather is 2-0 down already.
Thanks, Montana Doug. Not only do I have no TV coverage, and BET365 is not allowed, but I've got an Adobe problem on my computer so most videos make it crash !!! Yeah, great.....
So I'm glued to livescores....
And - just so they can hear me in NY - GO GB !!!!
